old pilots/the invention of dog food

I saw this obituary in the local paper yesterday, while looking for anyone I knew....., while I didn't know this gentleman, my first thought when seeing his picture (and before reading the text) was "that guy is a pilot". Then I read it, and yep, sure enough. Sounds like an interesting life.

Here's another one, who also served in the Pacific theatre as a pilot (carrier Corsair pilot  ) then 50 yrs of aerial application and then ranch flying. At 93 Jim is still firing on all cylinders, though he claims his gyro's are shot (balance issues). You ought to see the pile of firewood he has dragged off of the steep hillsides with his tractor, cut and split, he does that is his spare time. And...his right arm was tore off by a tractor PTO years ago, and sewed back on, or else he'd have even more wood piled up. This was my second flight into his driveway, we both hugely enjoy it :D

BTW, his daughter gave the dog the haircut, and while we were talking dogs, he mentioned that he remembers when there WAS NO DOGFOOD! It seems people would just feed them table scraps or other people food pretty much. I never thought of it before, he is that damn old, that he was around before they invented dog food!Image
