Thats pretty neat. Anyone know what that airplane with the top rotor is? Awesome STOL capabilities there...

I think it was called a Pitcarin?? Something like that, just short landing I think as airspeed turned the rotor.

It's an autogyro. They have been around almost as long as airplanes. The rotor is a fixed pitch that is always in auto rotation when airborne. They are slow, use lots of power and not very practical. There are some new high tech ones out there that have improved performance and powerful prerotators that allow them to jump into the air.

That is a Pitcairn Autogyro. Some of the Pitcairns had the pre-rotation drive. Short takeoff roll, shorter landing roll. I'll bet the shadow on the ground looked really cool.
