Olibuilt's new experimental Cub

After 2.5 years building it, it is now flying. First flight was a few days ago.

Will need to learn how to handle the beast.

Very nice! It looks like it hates being on the ground!

What are the specs?

Re: Olibuilt's new experimental Cub

Sounds like it's set up to be a very well performing plane!

What type of build did you do? Scratch or a kit of sorts?

Re: Olibuilt's new experimental Cub

It was a wrecked brand new super cub fuselage, and I built a set of complete wings.

You can see a part of the built here:

Re: Olibuilt's new experimental Cub

What an impressive piece of work! I think it needs Barnstormer's prop on it though:

Re: Olibuilt's new experimental Cub

The 86x38 Catto Prop is something too. At about 22 pounds with adaptor and bolt, it is really light. And it climb like hell!!

Still waiting to get use to the Cub before putting the slats on. Hope to see a big differance. Will see...

Another video from yesterday flight.

I'm sure that your prop is very well-chosen. That was an attempt at a wise-ass reference to the red color of Barnstormer's prop, which he's been taking a little good-natured flack about over on another thread. All kidding aside, your plane looks really sweet, and I do like the color a lot. Congratulations on the maiden flight.

Re: Olibuilt's new experimental Cub

Thanks guys. I had a lot of work time involved in this project. But I'm very happy with the result. It flies good, and feel very comfortable at low speed.

I live near Montreal, Quebec, Canada. From there my ''french Canadian'' redneck speeking!

I really love your plane too DenaliPilot. That red prop with the ''classic'' plane color is really nice.

That SQ-2 belongs to the BCP member Barnstormer, but DenaliPilot probably wishes it was his

Hey it really looks like you've done a great job with your build.
What a factsheet of upgrades to the basic design too. I can scarcely think of a modification I'd have wanted which you haven't already installed. I bet it goes up better than down.

Love the deep red paint job. Red isn't an easy colour to spray either, good going.

As with most of us.

Otherwise I second Battson's comments wholeheartedly!

Oli,

Been watching (and enjoying) your videos for about the past year. I would call you the Canadian version of Greg Swingle.....

The new Cub is awesome. Looking forward to some more Olibuilt adventures in the new bird! Nice work.

Esti d'belle avion!

(English translation: damn nice plane!)

Figured you weren't too far from my neck of the woods by the video commentary

You seem to hit a great mix between lightweight and a fully decked cub. Well done.
