Aircraft Spruce has almost always matched others lower prices. I think that they advertise that they will do that.

Aircraft Spruce has almost always matched lower prices. You have to tell them the price and who has it for that price. Try it next time.

There is only sales tax if you live in that state. Most of us do not.

Building and working on planes would be much more difficult if we did not have Aircraft Spruce and all of their many small parts, bolts, rivets and everything else.

Jim and Nanci Irwin and company have corrected any problems that I have had and replaced some things.

The damn guvmint keeps making noise about charging sales tax on telephone and esp online purchases. The bastids see a possibe source of revenue going untapped and they just can't stand it.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

As I understand it, the online retailers are supposed to charge sale tax appropriate to the state where the item is being shipped. Many of the big retailers do, like backcountry.com, REI.com, and costco.com. But, many do not because I don't think there's any structure in place to enforce it. It seems like a huge accounting headache for the retailer to have to send out those tax payments to the states..wtf?

I really like it when the market place works and the guvmint doesn't regulate it into paralysis.

As much as I am the customer you describe, it is supposed to be the duty of the purchaser to make their uncollected sales tax payments to their state. To that, most people laugh uncontrollably, but state sales tax is part of a state's budget, unless you're in what...Oregon or Delaware? I can't remember the other state. There's only 2 in the nation that don't collect sales tax.

Having grown up without sales tax, it's particularly painful to me.

States with no Sales Tax

Oregon
Montana
Alaska
Delaware
New Hampshire

The Streamlined Tax Act, which the states are trying to get across would force retailers to charge tax based upon where the product is being shipped. Currently, the only retailers that have to charge tax in the state where the product is being shipped are those retailers that have a physical location in the receiving state. That's why retailers such as Costco and REI charge the tax, because they basically have a physical store in every state.

I did not mean to get you guys all fired up again over taxes and government. We are all preaching to the choir. Why depress ourselves over things. Much of the blame goes to the people that elect these people.

Let us get back to flying, airplanes, parts, etc.

Your frustrations with mismanagement of state government are probably shared by everyone, however the point I was trying to make is that the tax levying body will endeavor to close any holes it perceives in the system, which in this case is unaccountable online transactions. I like the way it currently works, but I suppose it won't be long before they come calling.

Husky Pilot, I don't know how it works now, but years ago you could live in north east Idaho, with no property tax, and shop in Montana with no sales tax and "beat" the system.

That's still the case today. I can drive 20 miles south across the border and make a tax free purchase in Oregon. But if it's something that's needs licensed, then I'll have to pay the tax when I license it. If it's a stereo or tv or etc, etc...then it probably doesn't get any tax paid on it.

My opinion in Hot air. "Online retailer price matching. addendum "

Not that anyone cares what I think. Most of you kinda know how I think. When BC**AH was formed I said I would try my best to keep my political BS there or in Hot air. I'm trying.

Airplanes good! Airplanes good! Airplanes good! Airplanes good!
