OR -> AZ ->HI 2021.DEC R44 raw video VIRB

North East Pacific: year 2021, November has been an incredible month for storms. Hawaii received gigantic waves (Jaws was 50’+), British Columbia flooded and the Oregon coast flooded/windy.

NWS forecasted weather window is opening tomorrow, packing and planning to fly Arizona.

Good by to the dark November LZs of the coast:

@ Sonoma County Airport. Best coastal weather I have flown in a long time. Even had a tailwind.

Tomorrow SoCal…

Re: OR -> AZ: 2021.NOV.24, R44

Happy Thanksgiving and Aloha from California wine country! The fabled katabatic “Santa Ana” winds are here for Thursday in SoCal. No coastal flying below latitude 35.5’ N for my little ship today. Friday looking better hopefully.

The desert winds are slowing. Good day for a leisurely flight over L.A. County to Bermuda Dunes.

Re: OR -> AZ: 2021.NOV.27 R44 Leg3 L.A. County-Bermuda Dune

I’m next to the Colorado River in Arizona! Dew point spread is 65F, no need for carburetor heat. Air temperature is about 70F and the sky is completely blue. Leaving the aircraft for a while and flying back to Hawaii. Glad I’m here for a few days. Would love to rent a jet ski on the river!!!

Re: OR -> AZ: 2021.NOV.27 R44 Leg5 — “AZ Cowboy”

The trip was perfect. Thank you to all you da kind folks who met me, who called me and answered my posts/emails/PMs..Very friendly people out in the desert.

Now I feel the need to return home…my credit card statement is (4) pages and I’m getting out of control with financial matters. Need to cool off and go surfing for awhile. But, I shall return to our beautiful desert this winter with Mary. Mahalo everyone for the welcoming.

The ship is safe:

Re: OR -> AZ: 2021.NOV.30 R44 Leg6 — “All Pau Brah”

The days of riding off-road on Oahu are pretty much over for me. There are small dirt tracks up at Kahuku. But, it’s not even worth it for me to drive up there from town with all the new traffic etc. Now I am a 100% jet ski rider doing towing etc. in the islands.

In Nevada and Arizona there still is some real desert. In Nevada, surprisingly, you can buy racing fuel at many public gas stations. The speed limit is 75mph in many places too.

My beloved “Hawaiian Honda XR650L” was shipped to the mainland and is heading to my hangar in Arizona!

The motorcycle was shipped on a very slow barge and tug from Honolulu to Seattle. It required 35 days from door to door. It was the cheapest service but, very slow. Considering the brutal November weather, I thought it may of been lost at sea.

NOTE: The front fender was severely bent from the shrink wrap…straighten it with a heat gun and it’s now fine. Check out the Hawaiian flag on the number plate!

The riding in AZ is almost endless. From your location you should be able to access the Arizona Peace trail lickety split. It will probably end up being a few day ride, and much fun.
It will also take you right past my home strip, as well as my work strip, where you are welcome to hang out and make airplanes make noise 8).

Or you can stop in in the Robbie if you find yourself out this way, and we won't even make you land on a dolly :lol:

Several of the local gas stations here have racing fuel. I don't know if it's any better than avgas, and generally costs much more.

Take care, Rob

I would love to meet you Rob! Thank you for the guidance.

Note: My Honda XR650L has an Acerbis (6) gallon fuel tank & auxiliary oil cooler. Good for backcountry riding.

Pretty slick oil cooler setup on the front fender. I don't see those to often.
Do you control the fan manually or thermostatically?

Thank you for the compliment! The fan is manual switch. The rider guesstimates what conditions the fan may be helpful. During hot slow riding I leave the fan running. The oil really stays cooler.

Re: OR -> AZ: 2021.NOV.30 R44 Leg6 — “All Pau Brah”

My biorhythm “batteries” are recharging nicely here in the tropics. Decided today: time to finish the “Arizona Project” and transport the trailer and helicopter support equipment to Arizona. Will be signing an annual/100 hour inspection while ship is located in AZ.

Quick update..

In Honolulu:

* Completed a 10K fun run concurrently alongside the Honolulu Marathon. Mary completed her 22nd full Marathon however on the same day (different course).

Santa serving beer to the runners @ Murphy’s:

* Went jet skiing South Shore:
* Cuisining offshore over to Waianae for the night:
* Spent the night @ Pokai Bay, Oahu:
Next:

Drive to Arizona with tools etc. & start flying in the beautiful Arizona desert:
