Re: Oshkosh 2014

You're getting plenty of good info on approaching OSH, and I'll include some pics of what you'll see along the coast at Chicago, it's really worth the effort.

Re: Oshkosh 2014

Matty, like Cary pointed out, Wisconsin is a great place to fly over at 1,000 ft, and the one shot is typical Wisconsin. The other is of what used to be Meigs field, so you can see why the closing is still upsetting to a lot of people, to put it mildly.

Re: Oshkosh 2014

Nice shots Zenithguy. I landed at Meigs on a Sunday morning, a week before the bull dozers came. That was the last time I was in Chicago, other than passing through ORD. So sad, what some Politicians have been allowed to get away with.

Re: Oshkosh 2014

Hi all, well ,Oshkosh was bloody awesome, I've never seen so many aircraft in one place ,and I doubt I even saw half of the ones there.
The flying didn't work out for me, got my Aussie licence sorted just in time, did a check ride in the Maule ,all good. The weather in Michigan was beautiful in the week leading up to us heading over ,,,,,,till Sunday morning, 300ft ceiling and thunderstorms around the bottom of Lake Michigan ,,,damn !
So in the car it was ,7 hours driving but got there ,loved it ,,,and I'll try the flying in again one day.
The Maule was interesting, a 1963 M4 with 145 continental ponies up front ,nice to fly but I can see why the later ones were so much more capable.
I'll hopefully be able to get there again in a couple of years and will try the fly in again, still want to land on those dots!

Compared to the flying a lot of people here do, spot landing on a giant dot isn't difficult. But landing right on it and getting the customary "good job maule, welcome to oshkosh" is still one of my favorite sounds in the world.
