That's a good looking plane, I even like the paintjob and trim scheme.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

I am the text I create.
That thing could put airports out of business. Land in your front yard!
Awesome.

ALL FUN
Must have one hellava good landing gear. See the way it drags in, chops the power and bam, hit pretty dang hard.
Might need to check it out a bit more. Looks as if along with the leading edge slats, it has something similar to a Robertson STOL?
See ya, Bub

Robert "Bub" Wright, aka Skylane, passed away in November of 2011. He was a beloved community member and will be missed.
I don't get it. Why would you want to come in with that nose high attitude and not see where you are going.
I would like to see it in the Alaska cub competition. I think they are right in there with this guy and they can see where they are going. JG

...remember, life is uncertain, eat desert first!
... and, those that pound their guns into plows, will plow for those who don't.
I don't think Wayne's purpose is necessarily to be able to land the airplane in that attitude. His point is to build an airplane that is virtually impossible to stall, and that can be FLOWN at extreme angles of attack safely.
The landing video is just a means to prove to us doubters that the airplane can really achieve that kind of aoa. Video in flight wouldn't provide the perspective on angle.

Whatever his purpose is, I'm impressed with it. Particularly with the apparent manuverability at slow speeds. Reminds me of a helio.

Yes, it is very impressive, I wonder what the other stats for the plane are.
Mike, do you know this person?

patrolguy,
The engine in this cub is lowered 4". And the cowl is buuilt sloping down as opposed to horizontal. The pirep I got from someone who actually flew this plane, is that not only CAN you see fwd at ridiculous aoa, but that the engine / cowl is so far out of the way that at first you have a hard time judging just what aoa you are achieving!
As to the AK (I assume you are talking the Valdez and in the past Gulkana fly ins) Wayne is no stranger to them. Surely you've seen the old Gulkana vid of Denny Martels cub doing the 18' ish... take off? That cub had Waynes Slats on it. I think Mike hit the nail on the head. The Video is more a demo of what it can do more than a typical way to land the plane.... Although it sure looks fun
Take care, Rob

I thought nose looked suspiciously like a Tern.

Phil,
Wayne built the cowling from fiberglass from a plug made around the engine after it was installed. As noted, he tried to design it with the best visibility over the nose.

And came up with something that looks suspiciously like a Tern's nose
I didn't mean to imply he directly copied it. Just that the Tern has a similar nose bowl and downward sloped cowling. The fuselage is very obviously based on a Cub.

I'd like to see him build something suspiciously just exactly like a Helio Courier.
