Owyhee June 6-9

Weather permitting, I'm planning on heading out to Owyhee, with the little lady, for an extended weekend. No firm plans, just paddle about, explore, swim, hang around, fly a little, drink a little.

Everyone welcome, of course.

Pretty much it'll be dry for irrigation purposes by mid July I think it's 20% full and there's about 12% dead space

Re: Owyhee June 6-9

Looks like we'll be heading to Banks lake instead. Powers came in a close 2nd but we're both jonesing for exercise and Banks has been on the bucket list.

Looks like great weather this weekend, maybe a little breezy. Have fun and be safe.

How can you pass on a chance to visit with the BCP bro's? You want exercise? I'll bet if you gather all the firewood, wax all the planes, and walk to town and bring us cold beer, that should be enough exercise. :D
Have fun Craig!

I assume your talkin about Electric City? That's a cool airport with a camping spot right on the lake you can taxi the plane to. Great spot for a evening skinny dip, or an exercise swim if that is more you thing.

LOL! Hadn't thought of that! Wow, people, this place is fantastic. Stunning scenery, great courtesy car, canoe, and camping. Great place for a mini fly in. Nobody else here. Perfect piece of nirvana and little evening skinny dipping, ;-)

Actually water is not bad temp.

Re: Owyhee June 6-9

Didn't get off the ground until about 1:30 Friday. It took 2hrs 40 minutes to fly out. The winds were fairly light. Nobody around at the airport when we arrived. We set up camp and a couple arrived by lake in the courtesy canoe that is kept at the airport. They stuck around for a short bit then headed for home.

The airport also had a nice courtesy car for short trips into town. Pretty swank. The camping area, by the lake, isn't huge and has a bit of a slope to it. There's some grass up near the pilots lounge that could be camped on, as well.

We took the boat out that evening for a short paddle across the lake and back (the short across, that is. The long across is about 30 miles). On the way back a truck with yellow lights drove onto the airport and past our camp. There was some sort of smokey stuff coming out of the back from a large container in the back. We got back to camp and didn't smell any pesticides but the next morning we noticed dead bugs all over the picnic table. Coincidence? Maybe. There's also a midge hatch going on and they only live a day or two then die off. Not many mosquitoes so maybe some sort of mosquito control?

The next morning we woke up around 5. At 5:30ish the calm lake was alive with a dozen or so boats all speeding off towards the south end of the lake. We think a fishing derby was going on and everyone was racing to get to their secret fishin' hole. After breakfast we took the canoe out for a long paddle. Winds were light. We stopped on a little island for lunch and a short swim, then a little farther down for some hiking. We didn't make it all the way to Steamboat rock.

The grass was pretty bad, as you can see by one of my pictures.

We got back around 3:30. A couple from Spokane was relaxing at one of the picnic tables when we arrived. They left and a few more people arrived for a short bit. Everyone eventually left leaving us the only ones camping. It was pretty nice to have the solitude.

The weather was great. The winds were relatively light. Probably never got over 10mph and usually fairly calm. The temperature was in the upper 70s to mid 80s.

Sunday we flew back. A marine layer socked in the west side so we headed to hood river for lunch. By the time we were through, Scappoose was clear.

I don't get it. Everything displays just fine on my end. I'll have to try from another computer and see if there's some sort of permissions issue maybe.
