Owyhee River Area

Besides the strip on the lake, does anyone know of any other airstrips up river to the south? It looks like a great place to explore and camp but I cant find any landing strips anywhere in the area (using the sectional that is.) Any ideas?

Re: Owyhee River Area

There are a few places to land at the south end. The bigger the tires and lower the water level the more places there are. There are also, I believe, two "real" strips further south in the canyon. One is an irrigated field as I remember. As well, some of the "big boys" of playin' have been known to find a place or two up high on the ridges to the Southeast.
Bottom line is you aren't going to find any of this on a sectional, only eyeballs. The whole place is a huge playground if looked at from the proper perspective, with the right equipment and the right skills. If it's been wet, watch it and remember if you bend something out there it'll probably cost a bit to get it out due to remoteness.

Re: Owyhee River Area

There's Oh Shit North and Oh Shit South to the south of the lake. Just follow the river upstream and you'll find them. Take a good look at them both before you land. I hear the Cub and Scout guy's out of Caldwell have lot's of fun along the river there. I hope JoeCub don't mind, but PM him and ask for some info from him. Alot of there (http://www.Idahobushco.com) video (SuperCubs Gone Wild) was filmed through out the Owyhee's. There's alot of fun flying through the Owyhee's and the river, that's for sure. Even in my 182! Have fun!
