PA-12 engine options
Aircraft building and project-level overhaul forum -- Kitplanes, experimental amateur-built, homebuilding, or even restoration of certified aircraft.
I am redoing my Super Cruiser with several Alaska mods. Crosswinds GW increase and Sullivan flaps and Atlees float fittingsamong them. I saw somewhere that certain models of the Lyc 0-320 are not authorized for the seaplane version. Charley Center has an STC for 0-320 E2D. I have an extra 0-320 E2A that I would like to use in this plane. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience in this matter? Also, does anyone know how I can pt a CS prop on this engine? Is MT approved? Just wondering. Thanks, John

Kenmore Air Harbor also holds an STC for the O-320 on the 12, though I'm not sure what model. Might post over on Supercub.org website....lots of 12 experts over there.

I had the Kenmore STC on my – 12. The big problem with that is that it utilizes the original engine mount. While the aircraft is an incredible performer the kenmore stc provides for an unbalanced aircraft. The tail stalls long before the wing is done flying, this makes the plane reasonably heavy on the stick. Just lacks a little bit of elevator authority.
If I were to do it again I wold go with the crosswinds STC, this utilizes a 4 inch shorter engine mount giving the plane a much shorter arm on the swing mount.
Unfortunately the crosswind will cost you about 2000 versus the kenmore for 200. Also I belive the crosswind has a special exhaust. Although a great airplane it can be improved with the short mount. Especially on floats.

Yup I have zero experience with a 12 but I'm well acquainted with a 14 and the short mount makes all the difference.
