Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

PA-12 ????'s

Howdy All,

I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a PA-12 with a folding type door like a Super Cub. I am doing a restoration on one and heard there might be something like this out there?

Also looking for a O-320 for it if anyone has a mid time removal or decent core they might want to sell. Has to be the conical mount early style.

This bird should be finished by summer and will be for Sale if anyone is looking.

Thanks Again,

WW

Question is, why would you want one of those split door/windows on a 12? I'd go with the seaplane door, hinged at the top. Can still open in flight, if that's what you're after, easier to get to seal, and requires a lot less messing around to modify.

Just a thought.

Mike is right on this. Hinge a 12 door at the top and fly happy. Closing the split doors on 88M in flight is always a pain compared to a one piece door hinged on top.

doors

Thanks MTV, My boss the owner wants a bifold but after some more research I am finding a few with that but there is one place in AK that sells the swing up type STC. I think I will talk him into that one.

Do you know what they do with the sight gauge if you have a swing up door?

WW - unless Mike has heard of some other way (like dimpling the plexi in the swing up door), people generally put in cool wing root sight gauges like a Super Cub when rebuilding 12's. Like this: http://www.supercub.org/photopost/showp ... ig&cat=511

or the dreaded electric sending gauges like this: http://www.supercub.org/photopost/showp ... ig&cat=511 (upper right hand - horrors what junk they are!) :?

WW,

The FIRST thing I'd do, if twas me rebuilding a 12 is to get rid of those cursed terneplate tanks, with those goofy outdoors hangy down sight gauges.

I owned a pretty original 12, and fought those tanks every time I flew in a little turbulence. Unless you really like soldering fuel tanks, dump those tanks, and convert to either Super Cub tanks, or one of the other SC type options, with the sight gauges inside the cabin.

Lots of tank options these days, and those stock tanks will leak at some point, like right after you re-install them.

Seriously, replacing stock 12 tanks is pretty much the gold standard in 12 rebuilding.
