So, I usually lurk around here, but I'm wondering about a peculiar happening last night.

Last night around 2350, on Lake Hood, a 180 or 185 on skiis fired up likely just north of the millennium hotel, taxied north a bit, revved the engine and turned west until out of sight. Crazy thing is, it was very late, 300' overcast and freezing rain, airplane had no lights on, and I didn't hear anything on live ATC after losing sight of it.

I can see the mystery tracks in the snow from my lofty perch right now.

Sounds like another typical day/night of flying in Alaska

Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Much of Lake Hood is actually not controlled in any case. And LHD tower isn’t manned 24/7 at this time of year.

Maybe somebody needed to get their plane in for annual inspection, and they are working folks. Move the plane, and leave it on the mechanics doorstep. Then off to he job in Prudhoe Bay at 6 AM.

Who knows? It’s Alaska! It could be a whole lot weirder than we can imagine.
