Part 135 Certificate questions

Is anyone particularly savvy on these? I might have a business opportunity I could get into but I'm really unfamiliar with them. Anyone mind messaging me their number so I can pick their brain?

Re: Part 135 Certificate questions

Single pilot 135 certificates are MUCH less complex and difficult to acquire and operate than a multi pilot certificate.

Give the Fairbanks FSDO a call, and they can give you all the information you need to START the process. Then look for information from those who've been there.

Also, before you get too far along this path, call your insurance carrier, and see IF they'll insure you for commercial ops, and if so,what the coat will be. If it says low level or off airport on it, bring your own Vaseline, cause its gonna hurt. Regular airport to airport 135 insurance in AK is expensive enough.....

Question then becomes: are you going to make enough on this gig to pay for insurance? And if so, do you REALLY want to deal with the FAA that much?

If you piss off your poi or maint guy, it never ends!!

Look very close, this coming from someone who walked in and gave the FAA their 135 Certificate over the desk and then walked out!

I was grossing over 7 figures with 206's & 185's, 7 total over 3000 hrs a year, I quit before they broke me!!

Re: Part 135 Certificate questions

I had a really good conversation with Wes today (thanks by the way! I know you're busy, it was really cool of you to spend that much time talking about it with me!).

I think that for this operation, it's not something I want to get involved in. Maybe down the road somewhere though!

Shoot me an email with any questions you may have

I've been through the process recently.

Sure, it's a pain and your insurance is expensive. But someone pays for you to fly and you are your own boss. What's not to like?

After talking with Wes I think I'll hold off on the 135 stuff. Its definitely something I want to do after I retire.

This particular situation was an attempt to essentially start a company and "hire" an existing operation (part 91) to fly under the 135 cert. It would have been win-win for both parties as it would have expanded the other operation's capabilities and I could have made a little money and gotten a certificate for future use, but I don't think I have the time right now to devote to the business to ensure its success - much less to the start-up paperwork!
