Passed my check ride!

Took the final part of my private check ride. I had to discontinue on the first try due to wind. I fealt it was starting to go downhill quick before I discontinued that day, but the examiner said I was doing well. I have done almost all my training in class G airspace and had to do my check ride at MWH, in class D. It was about as busy day as I had ever seen at MWH. There were 5 C17's in the pattern, a 787, and some other big iron doing "high angle decent manuevers" what ever that is. It was also blowing 15 with gusts to 25. I threw in the towel.

So that was a few weeks ago. Since then the examiner went on vacation, the weather went to crap, and I went away for thanksgiving weekend.
Today it all worked out. All I had to do was a power on stall, and the three landings. No problem. I did this last part at KEAT. No controller on the radio, minimal air traffic, lots better than a few weeks ago at MWH. It was blowing 18 at a slight crosswind, but thats no problem, I am from Chelan, and I have gotten used to wind blowing. The whole thing took us .6, including taxiing and climb out.

So tomorrow I want to fly somewhere with my wife. I have to figure out a good place to grab a $100 taco, or some breakfast with in 40 minutes or so from S10.
My Champ is also coming along. Fuselage is painted, interior is in, gear is rebuilt, wings are getting close to being done. Pictures soon.

Way to go David: You already live in Chelan, why go anywhere? Just kidding. As the saying goes, now you can learn to fly! Congratulations.

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)

Congrats to you David! One of the first phrases from my examiner (Dick Miller) after I passed was........
The day you stop learning to fly, is the day you should stop flying

Re: Passed my check ride!

Thanks for the congrats everyone. I don't plan to stop learning. In fact, the plan in the up the learning schedule a bit. There is an instrument ground school starting here in Chelan on Jan 1rst. I am signed up.
When the Champ is done in the next couple of months, I plan to fly it as much as possible. I can probably fly through a tank of fuel a day for a couple of weeks. That will put me close, if not at the hours and experience I need to take my commercial test. I really need to find another project to replace the Champ so I have something IFR, and more substantial than the Champ, before the Champ sells.

I went to SFF from Chelan, and via MWH on the way back on my solo cross country. I like that restaraunt at Felts Field. I think I'll check the weather. Maybe I need brunch and some x-mass shopping in Spokane.

Re: Passed my check ride!

A hundred years ago or so....

...when I got my private: the examiner said ...."Well here is a licence to go out and kill yourself." Six months later I took my commercial ride with the same guy and he said: "Six months ago I gave you a licence to go out and kill yourself." "Now I am giving you a licence to kill others and get paid for it." Some curmudgeon huh?

Seriously....congratulations. Have fun and be safe. =D>
