Pelican Point (on the Owyhee Res.) Work Party - March 29th

If your looking for a place to fly to on Saturday March 29th, come on down to the Owyhee Reservoir and join in on a work party at the Pelican Point airstrip. Bring your shovels, rakes and a good pair of leather gloves.
There will be water and some snacks available to trade for some good ole sweat labor.

Hope to see you there.

Anyone landed here recently? We flew over a few weeks ago, looks like the mudhole has dried up but lots of cattle tracks. Just wondering if it is too rough for a tri-gear with stock tires.

I haven't been there in a really long time but when I used to go there the only mud hole I ever saw was on the south end. If you land from the north it is easy to get stopped quick because of the rise that is like 600ft from the north end; if your not stopped before the rise it will slow you down quick. The one time I landed from the south it was really rough from the cows walking in the mud before it dried up. It has been years since I've been there so I'm sure much has changed.

I landed both ways last week .What Whee says is still accurate. Landing from the north if you manage your airspeed you can stop before the dried up mud hole. Or skirt it to the left side . Landing from the south is plenty smooth for tripacer .

Where is this at? Different than the Owyhee Reservoir State strip?

work party complete. if you land at pelican point now, I would land on the west side of the runway in the grass... it is in pretty good shape now that we removed a lot of rock and brush to widen it out.

Avoid the "old" runway dirt path... we put a lot of gravel and dirt on the runway low spots to try to fill it in a little and the middle dirt stretch will be really bumpy and rocky until we get some rain. The east side is also usable but be away of a small drainage ditch on the north half. if you are landing from the south either side would work, landing from the north i would use the west side.
