Peterson STOL

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Peterson STOL

Just checked out an interesting website: www.katmai-260se.com
This is the current version of the old Peterson Wren / Peterson STOL line of modified 182's. You might have seen them, they have a small canard mounted on the front end. Kinda cool. I talked to an owner once, I guess the Peterson mod's work!
The Katmai appears to be a 260SE fitted with Bushwheels. The mod's will cost ya about $100K if you hand over a suitable 182 at the same time, $200K or so otherwise.
BTW this site has only a few links displayed, but they include Bushwheels as well as backcountrypilot.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

The owner is a member here I believe. Hopefully he'll chime in.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

They are great people to work with and the Mod speaks for it self, there is one in Arlington WA and it is pretty impressive! I will have to get Joe to log in and tell you all about it.

 We introduced the new Katmai at the AOPA Convention in Palm Springs, CA last November and it has been very well received. Originally I built the Wren 460 then redesigned and certified the 260SE in the mid 1980's. This was due to the majority of my customers wanting speed and STOL, in that order. With the Katmai I have returned to my greatest love and that is bush flying. While the Katmai is still relatively fast it's primary design centers around hauling a lot of "stuff" out of very short strips and doing it safely. As with the Wren and the 260SE the Katmai flys at ultra slow speeds while maintaining a safe flat attitude. This is due to the aerodynamics associated with the nose mounted canard. The canard also gives the airplane its slow speed manueverability, stall resistance, etc.

As soon as Spring rolls around I'll be taking our Katmai on some camping trips into Northern AZ, Utah and Idaho. Hope to see some of you there.

Regards,

Let us know when and where. Maybe we could check out the plane. Didn't make Palm Springs.

 I normally post my flight schedule on the 260SE Owners Forum and anyone that wants to join me is more than welcome. If memory serves me correct the web address is www.260sepilots.org. I hope to have an IO-550 powered King Katmai flying by late March and I will want to do some flight testing. What better way to do it than by spending some time in the back country.
