Photos from 2007 NW Antique Aircraft Fly-in 2007

August 17-19, 2007

McMinnville, OR, Northwest Antique Aircraft Fly-In. Over 800 antique, warbird, classic, experimental and civil aircraft will be on display.

The Evergreen Aviation Museum which houses the Spruce Goose is right there too.

I'm going to try to make it since it's in my backyard. Anybody else?

Edited this to add some photos after having had attended the event:

I'll do my best to remember what all these were, but correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks to my girlfriend Erin for taking these photos with her artistic eye. :)

Stearman 4E...I was fascinated with the wheels and wheelpants though. Huge! These guys were from Reno.

This CW Travel Air 6-B was incredible. It was the Woody of airplanes, the interior was amazing with wood detail.

This '52 DHC-2 was a fresh restoration with only 17 hrs on the engine. It was immaculate, I've never seen a nicer airplane.

Did you know you can add oil from the cockpit of the Beaver?

This was a really cool event that is a must do for any fan of truly classic aircraft. I actually left feeling like I own a very modern airplane with my 170. The camping areas were really nice and just a great atmosphere overall. BCPer TWeiss from Roseburg was there with his '55 170B. We chatted for a bit while the clouds rolled in and the sky gradually grew darker and the winds picked up. I hope they fare ok on sunday....

Haven't been to that one since about 92, and it was still at Wally's. Used to travel with a 1929 Fairchild 71. Was a great time!

Zane, have you never been? If so, it's a must see. I went the first two years at MMV, missed the last 2 and will probably miss it again this year. It's just not the same as Evergreen was. That's the nature of change, I guess- things change. (duh!). Have fun.

No, this is my first time. What do you mean by Evergreen? Is there another fly-in, because that's the name of the air museum in MMV.

I hope the weather pans out so we get a good arrival turnout.

For those who don't know, Evergreen was THE premier vintage airplane fly-in in the Pacific Northwest, if not the whole country or at least the west coast. Held annually for many years at Evergreen Field in east Vancouver WA, the 43rd annual and final Evergreen Fly-in was held in 2002. Due to the impending sale (and assumed closure to follow) of Evergreen Field, in 2003 the Northwest Antique Aircraft Club moved the fly-in to McMinnville OR, where it has been held ever since. The end of an era! Evergreen Field did indeed close a few years later, I think in July 2006.

That red, white & blue Beaver was restored / built-up by our
good friend, Chris Brown of Brown Aero Works, Inc. based out
of the Arlington (KAWO) airport. Chris is THE Beaver wrench, and that
airplane is virtually brand new from the ground-up, everything (and I
mean everything) gone through. Great flying airplane. The new owners
of the Beaver left KMMV southbound on Saturday (was kind of sad to see
it go....). I hope they enjoy the machine, and appreciate all the
labor and effort that went into the restoration.

We had a great time at KMMV this year. Good friends/people, great
vintage airplanes.... Got rained on Saturday night, but our "clan" who
camped there managed to stay dry.

Who's going where for Labor Day weekend?

Bela,

That Beaver does look like it turned out well. Funny, I was looking at buying that project but instead got a different one which will be finished in the next month.

Chris does do good work.

Who is the new owner and where will it be based?

(and the only thing they missed is the fairings to cover the rubbers on the wheel struts. not many add them as expensive and hard to find).

I don't know who the new owner is, but I heard the guys talking about the
fact that he isn't a licensed pilot. I only met one of the CFIs who's task
(I understand) was to get the airplane to it's new home. It will be based
in the San Diego area.

NWAAC at MMV

I flew my 170 over to drop it off for my co-owner and thought that it was a Friday only event. Much to my surprise I got to land in front of a lot of people on Saturday morning!
I saw 3 planes in "formation" headed over Beaverton on Sunday, a 170, a Maule and I believe a 140. Anyone know who that was? Neat to see them flying together!

Yeah I know who it was. It was a Stinson 108, a 120, and a 170. I was the pilot in the 120. You may have gotten the stinson confused with a maule because the stinson has squared off drooped wingtips
