Pilot job with U.S. Forest Service

Here is a USAJOBS link to a pilot job with USFS.

The link seems extraneous, but it's there. :?

The USA jobs website is a joke. My wife is trying to get a govt job on the base where I'm stationed right now. She finally went and took an 8 hour class just to learn how to navigate that site and submit a resume.

I have been using the site for 10 years or so and it has gone through a few changs in that time. The only problem I have with it is apparently my tan is not deep enough to land a federal job. ](*,)

Re: Pilot job with U.S. Forest Service

I am sick of having employees and thought I would retire a couple years ago. That didn't work so I applied for a job at Elmendorf Air Force Base on that site. It was for a Concrete Foreman Job. I have 35 years experience and 22 running my own business. I never even got a response. Would have been a great job. 5 months on and 7 off. Paid as much as I make some years working 12. I think they thought I might actually make someone work?

I did get another interview off that site and when I got there they told me I was too old (i'm 54) to drive a Semi truck. That's funny since I own and drive two now. Anyway, if it was anyone else besides the Government that would have been discrimination. [-X

That's a hell of a job description  Will need a bit more special experience besides a full logbook for that one.

I had a pretty good tan going when I landed my first federal job - being from the sunbelt and all - but I am back to pasty white now, up here.

Re: Pilot job with U.S. Forest Service

I got my current job offer from the FEDS off of that site so it does work.
I have been waiting now 15 months for a slot to open so I can go to training.
It took me 2 days to assemble all the required paperwork and documents.
It took 7 months before I got an interview.

Total time I have been waiting is now at 25 months since I applied for my job! I feel like I'm talking about a newborn.

If you do everything thats required your application will be scored and they will let you know (by email at least) how you ranked. I think the fact it's so difficult is on purpose, as an initial screen out factor.

Keep in mind that though that is a central jobs site for vacancy >postings< every agency is still in charge of their own hiring process. Some are much better/faster than others.
