Poll on head/Plane count for the Annual BCP Fly In

Hey everyone,
As you all know we had a poll not long after the fly in this past year and decided to do it again at Johnson Creek, Idaho. The dates are going to be 25-27 June 2010. (This is the plan!) I'll get at least 2 week's worth of answers on this poll then call and schedule with ID aeronautical division. I sadly wont be going, but I said i'd schedule it and plan to do all I can to help, and dream as if I was going.
PLEASE VOTE 2 times if your going... one for the going/not going and one for number of aircraft that will be with you

Merry Christmas & Happy holidays everyone!

Re: Poll on head/Plane count for the Annual BCP Fly In

As of right now, I'm going to plan on going with just myself (unless there's any good looking females that want to come along with me? ). But you never know with me, there's always the chance of my work schedule getting in the way of my personnel life :x .

Thanks for your time and effort in organizing this fly in, Piperpainter!!

Too many fly-ins, too little time! This fly-in is on the same weekend as the National Waco Club fly-in, which is in the opposite direction (Mt. Vernon, OH). Oh well....

There is a bunk house at JC. Just not sure what you need to do to reserve a bed (if you even need to??).

Are you planning to fly your plane in from PA? If not, I might be able to help if your willing to pitch in for fuel.

David, welcome to the site! I can't give you a ride, because I'm not going. :( However, I'll make a few unsolicited suggestions.

I don't think it is possible to make arrangements to stay at Johnson Creek. It's free, first come, first served. If someone's tent is in your favored spot, you will pitch yours somewhere else. They try to keep large groups from scheduling events there at the same time, just to keep it more accessible for all, but no reservation is technically required.

You can, however, make arrangements to travel to Johnson Creek. If you're interested in thumbing a ride, be aware that everyone and their dog is planning for two mutually exclusive events. 1) they want to bring as much camping gear, food, guns, and ammo as will physically fit into the plane or can be tied onto the struts, and 2) they want to be as light as possible due to density altitude concerns. Your job, therefore, is to hop on a scale while holding your lightest sleeping bag, tent, and a six pack of beer, then trumpet loudly how little space you will take up and how you are as light as a feather.

Realize, of course, that you don't stand a chance in hell of getting a ride until you've professed a life-long obsession with guns, airplanes, crazy wimmin, and other sordid topics! :D

Please! Absolutely no offense taken any way, shape or form! And I'm not trying to throw punches back at anybody (at least not yet :D ) (by the way, good writting Kevbert!! ) :D

Maybe I should clarify my offer to help (if there was any misunderstanding. If not, it's all good!!). I'm based out of Caldwell which is about an hours flight time each way, if the weather is good. I'm scheduled to be off work for about 3 weeks during this event, so I have plenty of time to help anybody, if they need help getting into and out of JC, and if they are willing to help pay for the fuel. I have no problem shuttling one or two people to and from Caldwell/Boise area to JC and back and I strongly believe I have plenty of time to do so. And then once we're at JC and have all of our stuff out of the plane, we can go fly to some of the backcountry strips. (we can talk about details later) (PM me if anybody is interested or needs help in anyway)

There is an option at getting to JC for people that do not have a plane. If you want to drive to JC, it's about a 3 hour drive from the Boise area. So, if you fly in on the airline you can rent a car at Boise (KBOI). Or you can bring your RV, tow your camper, etc., if you want. Just I'm not sure if you're allowed to park an RV/Camper at JC Airport. There is a camp ground for RV's/Campers north of the airport about 1/2 mile. I might even drive my Bronco to JC the week before the fly in and leave it there through the weekend so I can explore a little further from the airport in that area. Or to take some extra stuff up there (you know, I just came up with an idea    .....I'll start a new thread on what I'm thinking) (http://www.backcountrypilot.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4667).

Like I mentioned earlier, Johnson Creek has a bunk house with about 6 beds (Shortfielder stayed in it this last summer during the 180/185 fly in). I personally don't know what you need to do to sleep in the bunk house. I believe it's a first come, first served kind of thing. Maybe that's information Piperpainter can gather up and post her? Or I'll try to research that info myself.

I stayed in one of the bunk houses during the BCP flyin for three nights last summer. The last night two others joined me because they got cold in their tents. Just asked the caretaker and he opend it up for us. HC

Can we have a pole option for a definite-maybe. :D

Lots of variables; plane issues, weather, work, aliens, pirate or ninja attack, etc.

Re: Poll on head/Plane count for the Annual BCP Fly In

The bunk houses are first come, first served. I know 2 years ago of a guy from Holland that had flown in, met up with someone from the midwest who he had previously arranged to bum a ride from, flew out with him to ID, then was catching a ride with someone else to L.A. or SFO to fly back to Holland. So, with the afformetioned criteria in mind, it doesn't hurt to ask around. It seems we have quite a few people make the homage out to Idaho every year. Good luck! Even if you have to airline out, it's worth the trip.

As for RVs and the like, there is limited space right outside of the gate at JC. I've been told in the past that if you are with someone that is there with an aircraft, you are welcome to park there. My parents parked their truck there while camping with us inside. Paul was even kind enough to use his quad and trailer to haul their gear down to our site. But like I said, not a lot of room there for RVs and campers, so you'd probably need to checkout the campsites north of the field that was already mentioned.

I'd like to come but I need someone else in the 100mph range to fly from the Bay area up there with. I'm not flying that far alone in a my experimental with no transponder and a 121.5 ELT.
