Portland area flying/riding July 28-Aug 8

I'll be in Portland for meetings for the next two weeks. I'm free in the evenings after 5pm and brought the Maule, my road bicycle and mountain bike if anybody wants to get together.

Staying downtown and the Maule is at Scappoose but I may move it over to Pearson as the 20mile ride each way to the airplane is a bit time consuming :)

Re: Portland area flying/riding July 28-Aug 8

I just got back to my house from a 3.5 mile MTB ride +500 ft and I feel like I got hit by a truck. You're talking about 20 mile rides!

I'm taking some friends flying early in the morning around the Mt Hood area from Twin Oaks if you want to rendezvous.

Ah, come on Z!
I moved the airplane over to Pearson so now it's only a 10 mile ride to get to it.
My meetings start early so I don't think I can swing the bike commute and a flight in the morning.......have fun around hood.

My evening commute back from the airport. Pretty cool how many bikes are out at night in PDX!

Yeah it's crazy. Almost a little scary because some of those guys can be pretty aggro.

Are you giving rides in the Maule? There's a chance I'd be up for a bike ride (second choice).

Is that the Willamette bridge that those Shell No assholes have been dangling from?

Great pics BTW. Portland sounds like a pretty cool place, for a big city. I should go spend a few days checking it out sometime.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of hanging out with Greg and Lisa Miller. Greg and I had planned to fly and look at some landing spots, but it was just to hot and bumpy to enjoy flying for very long. Instead, we chose to enjoy a great meal in their beautiful home and look at Greg's shop and projects. I could of spent many more hours looking at airplane parts and talking bush planes , but as it was, I didn't get back to my hotel until after midnight. My "commute" to their house consisted of a 10 mile bike ride, 15 mile flight in X-ray and about a 10 mile drive in Greg's ZO6 each way. It was a blast!!ImageImageImageImageImage

No, I haven't. I'm staying downtown PDX. Forest park for exercise and to justify hauling my mtb along, the rest has been on my road bike.

How long are you here? Maybe we should do an early morning Rocky Point ride. I haven't been out there in years. It's off hwy 30 between Portland and Scappoose.

I'm here through the 9th.......

Monday-Wednesday next week would work great for an early morning ride, after that I'm starting in the clinic at 5:30am until I leave. Let me know!

Just remembered the bike shop told me that the Rocky Point trails are closed due to fire danger. Sounds like they are on private timber land.

Only in Portland will you find a place to eat that gives out shop towels for napkins!

Nice Z. The cloud cover yesterday made the riding more enjoyable for sure.
