POW Glider Escape

for those that didn't know, i read about this in eaa sport aviation back a year or so. http://video.pbs.org/video/2365245626/

I couldn't get the video to work, but I read a book about the British wing commander who helped build it. He had lost a leg in a crash and the Germans let the Brits drop him a prosthetic one. He had to unhook from his to bail out over France. I think he was WC Badger.

I think you are meaning Group Captain Douglas Bader.

PBS had a show on this last night, you know that I guess?

They made another one recently, using all the same materials and techniques, and then launched it off the roof using a filled bathtub and a series of snatch blocks for a catapult. To the surprise of about everyone it flew pretty damn good, impressive.
