Prebuy in Florida

I am looking at buying a plane in Baker Florida and need a good Mechanic to look it over. I am from Alberta Canada and will have to import the plane so I am most worried about corrosion and the A.Ds being properly completed and logged. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: AME in Florida

"AME" generally refers to a medical examiner here in the states. You're looking for an A&P, preferably with IA.

Sorry about that. AME is an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in Canada. Basically I am looking for someone to do a prebuy inspection on an airplane in Florida. I will edit my original post. Thanks Zzz

Any help would be appreciated.

What type of airplane? You need a specialist of the make.

Re: Prebuy in Florida

It's a 1966 Cessna 182. I think it would definatly help if it was a specialist of the make.

Thanks

Re: Prebuy in Florida

Just throwing something out here, but depending on where the plane had lived in Florida, would there be any corrosion concerns due to the proximity to salt water? Another good reason for a pre-buy inspection. The 1966 has a wider cabin, a plus in my opinion. Good luck with your search.

Re: Prebuy in Florida

I had my 172 repainted, annualed, and a bunch of other work done on it by the FBO in Florala, Alabama (Wiregrass Aviation). I was very pleased with his work and he was very reasonable. I will say that this was quite a few years ago. Not sure if the gentleman is still there.
You could also check with the FBO in Crestview. They have expanded quite a bit since I lived in the area. The guy running it now is British I think, really don't know much about their business but they seemed like a fair sized operation.

Yes, inquiring minds want to know!!!
By the way, I am headed down to Florida tomorrow and will be a few miles from Baker. Need me to give it a quick look? Not an A&P but it is an 'eye's on" look if you want. No worries of me buying it....I have too many already.

Re: Prebuy in Florida

Thanks Fellas, ya I did buy it. I flew down last Saterday and had a look, then had the guys at Emerald Coast Aviation crawl all over it. The only carrosion they found was from the battery, need to replace a stringer in the tail cone. If thats all there is I can handle that no problem. :D :D :D

Now just need to get er flown home.

Re: Prebuy in Florida

Well done MonsterMuley,
No strip in Breton, Rimbey base maybe?
Did you get the A&P to do an export CofA as well? streamlines the CA registration.
Do you have someone to do the import with TC?
PM of you like.
