Re: Preheat/ cold start help.

I don't think the Ercoupes, Champs, Taylorcraft, and 140 I flew at Flagstaff, Gallup, and Monte Vista summer and winter for years had the plate, guts, and/or were sealed. I'm not a mechanic but some of those airplanes had papers. I pulled the mixture all the way out and got no change. My wife is old but she was young then.

On an aside, I bought a yellow tagged Stromberg for the Ercoupe and a small diamond engagement ring. Young men see that you avoid that huge mistake. The fact that the mixture control made no difference was minor in comparison.

Re: Preheat/ cold start help.

Thanks for all the info. Sunday I tried to go flying used a some more prime and it fired first pull after mags hot. but wouldn't run right at an idle. left the carb heat on and idled for a while no change. I needed fuel any way so I pulled up to the fuel pump and shut down... fuel was running out the cowl... I guess the float stuck open too it to my A&P carb tested good. back on the plane and no more problems. hopefully it stays warm was in the 50s today so I don't have to worry about pre heating .
