Preparing to commit a major sin

I'm sure some of you will think that I'm about to commit a sin against god, but bear with me.

I have the extraordinary luxury of being able to telecommute to my job and am wondering what options there might be for airstrips that either have internet or verizon 4g close enough to get a good connection. I don't need super fast, but I do need reliable. I could easily be persuaded by options in the Appalachians or the Rockies. But it would be great to have 3-4 places so that if one didn't work out, I could go somewhere else. But also because I wouldn't mind spending a couple weeks and the same set of trees and hills would get old after a few days. Variety is the spice of life.

So, anyone have ideas?

I would buy a piece of property on the Fireweed Strip in McCarthy Alaska and enjoy from the months of May through October. Tiny cabin. Hangar. Done.

My house. But the Wifi ain't free. Don't blame me. Blame Verizon.

You would pretty much have the run of the place.

I have at least two possible plans to head in your general direction...

What's your plan? Camping at grass fields with FBOs? Most airstrips that have FBOs have wifi, that I've found.

I'm in the same boat. Thinking of looking for a small place to rent in FL near an airstrip for a month, just because. Life is short, live it up.
My Dad just retired, and I keep dropping hints that he should move to FL. The Atlantic side, not the gulf side. Diving sucks on the Gulf side. :D

What's the job? :)

Get a RV. There are plenty of options from there. I can think of several, mostly around Idaho.

My preference was to be more remote than that, but unsurprisingly there hasn't been anyone with recommendations of places that are both remote and have good mobile coverage.

Not sure what Plan B will be yet...

RV is an option for some people, but not high up on my list. I have thought about getting an exede dish and getting satellite internet that way. Fly, land, unpack the dish, spend a few minutes getting it aligned and stay at the strip for a day or three. Would work for my needs. That and one of those 29 lb honda generators would square me away nicely I think. But Exede has a 24 month minimum commitment. So that's a $1500 commitment to solve a one month problem. Even by aviation standards that looks pricy.

Re: Preparing to commit a major sin

There are plenty of places where a verizon aircard will get internet with an rv across Idaho. No satellite is needed. Batteries will run a laptop and a heater all day.
