We're currently in a transition phase between Private message systems. All your old Private messages are still available if you navigate to the forum and click the drop down menu with your username on it, then select the "messages" link. This will take you to the old forum-based Private messages.

However, our new PM's are based in the Community software. Clicking a PM link on someone's profile in the forum will open a new PM interface and use the new system, so going forward we should gradually transition away from the old messaging system in the forum. When you have a new message, your notification icon will show a message count. Clicking that will open your messages atop whatever page you are viewing at the moment.
