Pro Aviation Candidates
Discuss the legality of flying the backcountry, FARs, advocacy, and aviation relevant legislation. Registered users only.
With the election drawing near, I have done some research, but have failed to identify the candidates that are pro-aviation in the state of Oregon. Any insight would be considered.
Thanks.

That's a good question, Kitfox. I'm ashamed to say I don't know the answer either.
Support of state and local level candidates who are pro-aviation has much more direct bearing on our airports and facilities than the presidential election.
Lets keep this an informed thread, and spare the partisanship stuff that plagues the presidential election. Thanks.

That is a damned good question and consideration when casting your vote. So here's a start to get informed. Let's take Oregon for the example. Look here
http://www.washingtontimes.com/campaign-2012/OR/ for a list of candidates for 2012.
The first one I googled, Senator Merkley (incumbent) + aviation and came up with this interesting video.
http://www.aopa.org/aopalive/?watch=VvM ... 9uSMcsFeXeSo if no ones doing nothing interesting .Let's do some research. and get a list going for all 50 states.

One click on Congressman Mike Coffman's page and you know he's pro aviation. (Great guy to talk with.)
http://coffman.house.gov/It seems CO Senators Udall and Bennett are more concerned about large commercial aviation than general aviation (Spaceport project).
AOPA House or Senate GA Caucus map for all 50 states (I'm not sure of the date on this map?)

Oregon
Sen. Jeff Merkley (D)
Sen. Ron Wyden (D)
Rep. Kurt Schrader (D)
Rep. Greg Walden (R)
Are all members of the GA caucus currently, still haven't been able to ascertain the GA positions of those running for positions in this election. Does anyone have information on candidates?

Got a mailer from the NRA listing their picks, and was surprised that one of our local legislators who is a democrat has a very solid pro-gun record. He's got my vote.
Other than with regards to funding and/or revenue (flip sides of the same economic coin), I don't think any politicians are "out to get" aviation -- but there are some who are out to get guns & gun-owners, or cater to them that do.

The biggest threat to aviation is the economy. Both parties have spent well beyond our ability to pay by taxes and borrowed beyond limits. The only way out is to "print" money. The resulting inflation will greatly reduce dipossable income and reduce resources to fly and whatever other interests you have. We are seeing the start of this with the spiraling cost of food and gas. It is going to get worse. Users fees, access etc are important but take a distant second to what is going to happen when bills come in for us spending beyond our means. This overrides all the single issue groups out there that get focused on their issue and ignore the big picture. Pressure needs to be put on all politicians to get our economy in order. Local and state politicians ask the federal ones to pay for things that they think are really needed but don't want to pay for them. The federal ones want to play Santa Claus with other people's money and spend irresponsibly and tadaaa here we are just a few steps from Greece. Republicans, Democrats, whatever they all are just as guilty.
