prop adapter plates

Last weekend at the Arlington fly-in, I saw something kinda unusual. Don't recall what it was on, but I saw an adapter plate sorta deal used to mount a propeller. Reminded me of the adapter plates used back in the 70's, to bolt (the wrong) mag wheels onto cars. The adapter bolted onto the crank flange, then the prop bolted onto the adapter, using the same number and size of bolts but in a smaller-diameter pattern. Anybody have or seen anything like this?
