PSA: Craigs list find, Para trooper folding bike in Tacoma

No association with this ad what so ever. I have seen these discussed here and they are like $800 new. Never seen one used before and if I had money, and was going to the wet side of my state this week, would consider buying it.

I really want one of these, but I won't have a need for it (still won't fit in the Champ) until I sell the Champ and get something bigger. I was looking at bikes because I need (want) a 29" MTB to continue with my fittness program (middle age crisis)

I have one I bought new. Paid like 700 I think. That is a deal.

When you buy on Craigs list. Go during the day, public place, good neighborhood, take a friend and a gun.

Good day

I don't know you, but if/when we run into each other at a BCP fly in, we will probably be friends, seriously way to much in common. I agree with the CL purchase precautions, I am just about to sell some 150 CC scooters I have left over from my dealership on CL as well as a van. I will NOT have anyone come to my home or my hangar to look at them, and I will go armed, and preferably with someone who is armed. I am not scared of people I can shoot.

You don't know OregonMaule yet? Ah man, your in for a treat when you meet up with him at the BCP fly in  If you hadn't met him by dinner time, you'll hear him when the dinner bell rings....... I mean blast's

But really, I've used Craigs List twice in the Boise area. Worked great for me. Sold my enclosed trailer in 2 days and the rancher came to my house to pick up the trailer with cash in hand

Forgive my ignorance....but if I buy a widget over CL....and send the seller money....how do I know they will send the widget. At least with Ebay, the company backs you up and the guy gets a poor rating. With CL do I have to live close enough to go pick up the widget in person? Ralph

Yes. Always an in-person transaction. Craigslist was originally started as a way to find apartments, that's why it's based on region/city.

I have sold a lot of skis/bikes/junk via CL, and always have the people come to my house. I have yet to have a bad experience other than flaky people who don't show up. But, I am cautious about revealing much about my house or anything in it. Usually it's "step into the garage, give me the money, take the junk, goodbye."

It's actually kinda fun to watch people try to negotiate. Usually I give them $10 off and they seem pleased that they were able to budge the seller.

Just pay attention to what part of town you're headed into. Scams/traps are usually pretty easy to spot and don't often involve some obscure item like a folding bike. Now if you're answering an ad for sensual massage service... stay frosty and eyes in the back of your head. :)

Craigslist stated intent is to be a local area online classified. They actively discourage programs that search all of the craigslist areas for items. At least, they used to.

Now this ad in particular has my spidey sense tingling, specifically the Title of it. It just seems like the guy didn't know exactly what he had which says to me that it's probably stolen. Maybe not but it'd be interesting to get the guys address or set up a meet (assuming you're really interested in buying) then ask for the serial number in a follow up. If there's no response or he suddenly comes back saying it's sold, I'd say 90% likely it is/was hot.

From the sellers ad it seems like he is a little wacked. I'm sure he will be packing from the looks of his ad. Just have him meet you at the mall or Walmart parking lot. I do a lot of buying and selling from people on the internet and most times it's good.

Looks like a great deal!

Here is another one. It is an old style BMW/Montague folder. No suspension on the back but a lot lighter. I don't know when they made this one, but I have a 1996 Olympic model . It's just like this one except the paint.

Re: PSA: Craigs list find, Para trooper folding bike in Taco

I was thinking it may be a soldier selling it. Tacoma Mall (the area he says he is in) is right by the Joint base Lewis McChord. I have seen a few military items for sale in that area over the years, almost bought a m105 trailer last year for a guy down there but the 5 hour drive made it not worth it.

I have bought and sold a lot of stuff on CL, in person. I owned a motorcycle shop and always had the person come there. My wife buys garden stuff off CL, but mostly from regular sellers, and who the hell would try to rip you off for manure, or organic seed anyways. It is the bicycle, TV, stereo, tools and other commonly stolen items that attrack the scammers.

Re: PSA: Craigs list find, Para trooper folding bike in Taco

While we're kind of on the subject (slight thread drift)............

Be cautious of leaving your iPod, GPS, and other portable electronics in your car while parked anywhere. Especially in a urban area light the Great Snake Pit of the Southwest (L.A. Basin).

While visiting my dad at the Saint Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino, some thug busted my drivers side window and stolen my iPod and laptop (I even thought I had my laptop hidden behind passenger seat under thick moving blankets).

The cop that came to write the report had mentioned that the thugs are going after iPod's and GPS units that are visible. Even any sign that a GPS may be inside the vehicle like an empty GPS mount and even a suction cup ring on the windshield where a GPS mount would have been. That would have triple sucked if I had my Garmin 396 in my truck when this SOB broke into my truck. I use my 396 in my plane, personal vehicle and my big rig. But, I didn't have it in my pick up the day the SOB broke into it, thankfully!!!
