Re: Inspection Camera (Blk Fri Deal)

Like G44 asked, I too would like to hear more about this model.

I bought a similar unit from Costco a few months ago, but I returned it because the resolution was marginal.

There seem to be two breeds of these "inspection cameras", "snake cameras", or "borerscopes" , or whatever they are called. One is the dedicated type of unit as shown in Bigrenna's post. The other is the type that plugs into a smart phone like a iPhone or Samsung Galaxy Note.

Does anyone have any recommendations on any of the smart phone inspection camera models? I'd like to be able to compare both systems before buying.

HD has this one on sale too, $70. I have not seen or used it, but it is interesting at that price.

I have a cheap one that plugs into my android phone:

Image quality isn't great and you can spend a lot of time trying to figure out where the heck you are but you should be able to see a hole in a piston. It does fit in a spark plug hole.

If you don't mind a borescope that needs a laptop (or a tablet / smart phone) to view the images, this one seems to get the best reviews on the "BeechTalk" forums, and on the CheapSOBeech website as well. I haven't tried it, but that articulating head would make it a lot easier to look at your valves, etc.

This is the one I got. It is good enough to tell my AP to get his really good Snap On and have a closer look. Not what a professional wants. You get what you pay for comes to mind.

Cheers...Rob

This one works pretty damn good, but someone has to hold your computer.

I haven't used that one... They are for sure handy, but I think the price says it all. If you really need a good image, I would say you will be forking out a bunch more ducket. But for less than a C note, what do you have to loose?

FWIW, I bought a nice one from ATS which has been fantastic. Video, stills, articulating head, great light/optics etc... http://www.aircraft-tool.com/shop/detai ... D=ATS-VS22

Re: Inspection Camera (Blk Fri Deal)

Costco currently has a killer deal on a really nice high quality inspection camera with a large 4.3 inch screen.

I sure love Costco. For those not familiar with this " Big Box Store", it is a giant warehouse style operation similar to BJ's Warehouse or Sam's Club. I happened to be in there today and WOW ...for $59 dollars they had this fabulous inspection camera. Made/Imported by Wilmar Corporation of Tukwila, WA. I bought it and have been fiddling with it for an hour or so. It's amazing. What sold me was the small head ( 9mm and not the normally larger 12 mm) , thin high quality flexible cable, and the large 4.3 inch screen size with superior 480x272 VGA resolution. The Milwaukee unit mentioned in a preceding post is only 320x240 screen resolution for example.

Overview:
Large 4.3 inch VGA Resolution Screen (480 x 272)
640 x 460 VGA Camera Resolution
Image rotation capability & Multiple Zoom Magnification
Waterproof head which is very very small for inserting into tight areas.
Accessories including mirror, 4 AA ALK batteries, and case.
4 bright LEDS with 5 selectable brightness output levels
35 inch THIN cable and a very very small head.
Did I mention it is only $59 dollars . WOW
Did I mention it is only $59 dollars . WOW Double WOW.

This is my second inspection camera and this one is the real deal. Great resolution, bright image, super focusing, and the CABLE actually is so THIN and flexible that you can pop the back off the unit itself and wrap it inside the case for self storage, and pop the back of the case on again. So simple.

The head and flexible cable are so small that you can easily snake it in the back of an instrument panel or avionics mounting tray. Oh yeah... Did I mention it is only $59 dollars... :D This is the special $20 dollars off sale price at Costco right now. Normally about $80 dollars.

Do you have an item number or something? I looked a couple days ago at the Costco here and no joy. I also just just looked for it online and did not find it. Thanks

The Costco Item number on the box is #1078694.

As I mentioned earlier, this is my second inspection camera. The first had a fairly large head ( diameter 12mm+ ?) and the flexible cable was much thicker. Again, with this unit, the head is extremely small at 9mm, and the flexible cable, while sturdy and able to hold its shape in whatever orientation you want, is very thin. So thin that the camera head probe and cable can be coiled up for convenient storage inside the housing of the main case with the large 4.3 inch LCD. The 35 inch long cable length fulfills all my needs. A mirror. hook, clip, and magnetic attachment for the probe are also included.

For $59 dollars. Amazing. I'm going back Monday to get one for my brother in law for a Christmas present.

Re: Inspection Camera (Blk Fri Deal)

Checked again at the closest and another Costco. No joy. One of the managers told me they had them some months ago but no longer. He said if you find a store that has them grab what you want because that is all there will be. I can't find them on the web site either.

Re: Inspection Camera (Blk Fri Deal)

Denali,
I must have missed it, but you have any idea what the unit costs? ;) JK bud!!
Not a Costco member, since the nearest one is 100 miles away. I did try to search their site using the item number but I couldn't find it.
I had purchased a unit a year ago at HF and returned it due to the head being to large for the small spark plug holes on the Rotax. I am sure I would find many addition uses for one of these but my idea was to inspect cylinders.
