Puddlejumper floats.
Information and discussion about seaplanes, float planes, and water operations.
Hi there, I am thinking of putting amphibious floats on my zenith 701. Just in the research stages now. Does anyone have real world experience with puddlejumper floats? Thank you in advance for any pointers, or suggestions for even other floats. I dont want to get floats I will regret... …

I had them on a Challenger ultralight. Are they big enough for a 701? Mine were only 950's.
The quality was good. Colour right in the gel-coat so they stand up well to minor abrasion. Of course they are lightly-built and a heavy pilot has to be a little careful when walking on the tops. They seemed rugged enough for the purpose though, and performed well on the water.

They apparently make a 15' float, which is rated at 1200 lbs, which gets you about 84% of max gross on LSA's. Not sure what max gross is on the 701.
I knew a guy with his Quicksilver on Puddlejumper amphibs. They were neat, but they were a much older model and looked like they were polyethylene, which would be heavy but tough. Maybe that's totally inaccurate, it's been a long time.
The Full Lotus are neat for lighter aircraft, but I can see wanting something more conventional for anything that weighs more than 500 lbs.
Have you looked at Clamar?

I have Clamar 2200's on my PA-12. Excellent floats. I don't have to pump them the entire season. I think 2200's are the smallest they make.

I have a set of Full Lotus 1260's with amphib gear. They are riged for a RANS S7. They 'might' be for sale soon.

My gross is at 1200 ...so I dont need anything too big. I wouldn't want to overfloat it, since that would affect my performance quite abit.
Another option I think would be the zenith amphibs … since I would be going amphibs. I dont think I want lotus floats, since based on my research they are tough but they dont perform as good, for getting up and out of the water compared to the more traditional floats. Unless ive been misinformed.
