Putting the FUN back in funeral

The long time owner of a nearby family run small town lumber yard died the other day. As non Home Depot/Lowes as you could get, they offer service like no other. Last year I ran short of 8" ring shank spikes for a cross buck fence I was building and not only did they have them, they ran them out to the airstrip for me so I could fly over instead of drive. Run that scenario by Home Depot/Lowes! No account, they just billed me, like the old days. A hand written bill, when's the last time you've seen one of those?

Not really tight enough to feel obligated to actually attend the funeral I did make a point of flying over at the right time to get this picture, blew it up, and along with a short note sent it to them. Different yeah but I wanted to go flying AND show some respect, they do know me well enough to not be surprised I would take this route! On the way back into the mountains I, by chance, flew over the small cemetary and could see the site prepared, sobering.Image

Then a little fun on the way home, (and somewhere along the way it popped into my head that funeral has the word FUN in it), practicing uphill ski landings, a great way to unwind after a morning of snowboarding, and different but similar at the same time. The fun part is making the landings short, but extending the takeoff slide as long as possible by reducing power and letting the slope do the work. ImageImage

In my small town I get to scatter ashes for friends, and I can go to the Lumber place and charge whatever. They will deliver also. Olsons Lumber has passed down from dad to son. It has been there for a lot of years.

***THREAD HIJACK***
We have a rental in a small Oregon town. Independence. I love the town. The other day I needed a dishwasher hose. Went to Ace, True Value, The appliance store, bi-mart. I finally had to drive 30 mile round trip to Home Depot. The small town knife cuts both ways.
***HIJACK OVER*** we now return you to your regularly scheduled program.***
