Quiet Technologies Halo

Well, I just had my first flight with the Quiet Technologies Halo, and I have to say they live up to the claim that they are "As quiet as ANR." I'm used to wearing earplugs and "doubling up" on ear pro and having flown with CEPs a bunch at work, this headset was a breeze...and it felt like one too. No annoying clamping pressing my sunglasses' temples into my head. Crisp, clear comms...very refreshing coming from my DCs (even with the Oregon Aero Hush Kit installed).

I've seen some posts questioning their utility in a GA piston, but at first blush, these seem to fit the bill. I'm still within my 30 day return window, so I'd love to hear what the masses have to say...especially if you have any hard science against them, please send it my way.

I'll be bringing them to Truckee this weekend if anyone wants to check them out.

Oh, and I have thick skin, so bring it on

Re: Quiet Technologies Halo

I've used the Halo headset for a few years now and really like it almost all of the time. Early on I had a soldered mic wire connection break off the circuit board inside the control box, but it was an easy fix. I called the owner and he would have repaired it for free/covered shipping, but I needed it soon and he actually talked me through the repair. I have basic soldering skills and it was no problem. All-in-all I came away impressed with his customer service, and love the performance of the headset. For me they feel as quiet as my 30-3Gs without the weight or clamping pressure. Only downside I see is for people who don't like to stick stuff in their ears.

I'm curious if anyone using this gets any ear pain/issues from the insert inside your ear. I for one get sore ears from using the earbuds for an ipod, etc and am afraid these would do the same-but man its a cool idea for a heasdset.

Re: Quiet Technologies Halo

I bought these on the recommendation of aviation consumer. I already own a Zulu, and I got em for 2 reasons. 1. I hate sweating in my Zulu when it's boiling hot. 2. My wife has a small head and is uncomfortable in every good headset out there.

They are awesome. I've been making my way home from Canada and have been wearing them solidly. Six hours today. The Zulus are in the back. Two flights in the last few days have been ifr and I listen to xm radio as well.

I love my Zulus but these things are awesome for really long spells in the plane or when it's hot out.

My wife loves them too.

I am used to wearing earplugs, I can see where some may not like that aspect.

I have had these headsets for about 18 months, I like them alot!. I use them in C-172, and at work... they work great in all the aircraft. I would buy them again, the only change I would make would be to get the Cub Yellow instead of the black..

Re: Quiet Technologies Halo

Do any of you who use this headset also wear glasses? I've found that a lot of the hook-over-the-ear devices (such as computer/phone mic headsets) tend to not sit right with my glasses. My glasses are just the wireframe type, so it seems like there shouldn't be much interference, but there always seems to be. Maybe it's just my big ears that stick out more than normal.

Re: Quiet Technologies Halo

So I flew a bunch over Labor Day Weekend (thank you, AKT) and wore the Halos for most of it...and loved every minute of it.

No issues wearing sunglasses and a hat all day with these. Really, the only problem I had with them was when starting/stopping a lot (earplugs in, earplugs out, earplugs in, earplugs out, earplugs in...) it can be a PITA. So I'll probably keep the DCs on board for cases like that: repositioning to the fuel pit, moving around the airfield, etc...However, for any extended flight they will definitely be in my ears!

Re: Quiet Technologies Halo

Have had a Halo headset for 3 years. Use them because I prefer:
1. Can wear any sunglasses without interference.
2. Wider range of volume available (only use them at 1/2 volume, compared to DCs at max)
3. No clamping pressure on head or ears.
4. Better blocking of ambient noise (use in Maule and open cockpit aircraft).
