Just me and the R44 today. Concluding 61.109 solo requirements. My training will soon be “All Pau” (complete) for PPL add on.

Decided to relax a bit and with the blessing of my CFI, went out to the country...

The Seven Mile Miracle, North Shore of Oahu, is where the final judgement of the World Tour of Surfing takes place. I flew up to Haleiwa, Waimea Bay, Pipeline for a joy ride. The waves don’t arrive until late October, however. But, I could almost feel the vibes — Kelly, John John, Makua charging 20-30’ Hawaiian Style waves.

Once again great video as always! I've always eyeballed the remains of the army airstrip ar turtle bay and thought about landing there, but I was always worried about how I would be received by the resort staff.....

Well, thank you! Glad you could “Virtually” join me this morning. I did some pattern work at PHJR and noticed you are gone. Keep us informed on your journey, it’s always interesting to read.

Are you referring to the old Kahuku Army Airfield? It used to be “X”ed out on the sectional chart but, now it is so overgrown that it is hardly recognized. Even the “X” is gone?

Kona (South, leeward) winds are bringing HOT weather. Muggy. I needed to drink a 1/2 gallon of water after the flight.

The hot weather is brutal lately. The kahuku strip is mostly overgrown but around half of it is still landable. One of the guys up at dillingham has put his motor glider down there twice. I dont think it's on the sectional anymore

Ahhh, yes the Kahuku strip. Many people have landed there. I thought about it a few times, in a C172, but, never had the guts. Mainly because how short it is. Being cut in half lengthwise makes it spooky! Scared me off. Plenty of turbulence/shear too at the point during trades!

Is your C140 on Matson? Ready for the big ship homeward?

The length scared me off too. Last thing I need is a broken plane in a place I'm not supposed to be landing... the 140 is on board a pasha ship and should be departing the harbor today

Ted, I also have a scavenger hunt for you. Somewhere between Haleiwa and Turtle Bay, there is a house just off the Kamehaha Highway with an L-19 Bird Dog in their back yard. Not sure who or why, but its an interesting lawn ornament to say the least! Found it during one of my laps around the island. Good luck finding it!

Ahh, the L-19 Bird Dog from Dillingham? Green? It used to be owned by a retired Air Force O6 at Honolulu many (many) years ago. Then became a glider tug. Never knew where it went. That just may be it.

Now, I must find her! Please give a few more hints...

Perhaps the same bird dog! But this one is grey. Probably the one that used to belong Yuko. Only other hint is that it is located near a small bridge that crosses a stream which drains into the ocean [emoji6]
