Re: RAGE Suspension System by Avweld

Loaded heavy, ( or light) the air shocks don't effect how the plane wallows around on the ground. More pressure or less, doesn't matter. They only control the rebound, and while I see a case could be made that changing pressure with different loadings may possibly make a difference, my experience is not enough to matter. I never have carried my pump, I leave it in the hangar, checking the pressure every month or so, it stays, surprisingly, real consistant

Re: RAGE Suspension System by Avweld

I have a Kitfox and decided to build a new landing gear. At the time Roberts had not yet invented his RAGE gear.TK had not invented the TK gear. And Acme was not a glimmer. There was however a design by Bob Barrows of Bearhawk fame. I bought plans from him and resized and redesigned to include separate rebound control.
The design I came up with I believe is much like the Acme design. I have studied the other 2 yet not tried them but I believe the TK is more easily adjustable for spring force. But the Rage and Acme have a mechanical spring which some would trust more.
For what it is worth if anyone is interested in my strut I would post pictures.

Re: RAGE Suspension System by Avweld

Every time I get the chance, when I see a new shock strut setup, I test it this way: I grab a lift strut up by the wing, and pull down, and time my next pull with the first rebound. All planes (other S-7's) I've tried this with, after 2 or 3 cycles, the opposite tire is coming off the ground. I'm not pulling hard, just using the seeming lack of rebound control to illustrate how mine DOESN'T do that. You can't get the opposite tire off the ground, short of hanging off the strut, rocking gets damped out.

I need to update my ski flying thread, speaking of giving the gear a workout
