Rans S-7LS
Sometimes the most fun way to get into the backcountry, Part 103 Ultralights and Light Sport Aircraft have their own considerations.
I've seen this airplane at my airport and it looked very nice. Anybody have any experience with Rans or this airplane in particular? Seems like a very reasonable price with decent specs.

I visited their factory a year and a half ago. Very nice people and well organized. I didn't fly the S7S but I sat in it. Comfortable and roomy.

I'm getting ready to build a Rans S6 which is the side by side version of the S7. I've flown the S6 but not the S7. Everything I've read about the S7 is that it's a good short field performer. It's not super-cub but it does well. I especially like having the doors on both sides.
Here's a blog from a guy who flew his S7 from mid-west farm country up to Alaska and back:

So it will get the job done.
