Ready. Set. Floats: A New Year

Hello again BCP,

Its been too long. I've come back here and there over the past year to look at beautiful pictures some of you have posted as well as the amazing videos. Keep catching myself on Trade-a-plane and controller looking at tailwheel planes as well as seaplanes. Any of you go to the annual STOL Competition Fly-In up in Valdez, AK? One of these years I'd love to make it up to the beautiful state of AK again.

Last Summer I spend a few days and got my seaplane add-on to my commercial certificate. Everyone that said "You'll
never have more fun..." was 100 percent correct about that. It truly is an amazing experience and am so happy I did it. We started training
on a weekend I had off from flying the PC12. Did ground as to be expected and then got a chance to take a look at the
plane, a Cessna 172 on Wipline Amphibs. It was a thrill, we ended up going over to the St. Croix river and also some on the Mississippi
river just north of Wipline Seaplane Base. Wipline was where I ended up practicing docking, departing from a dock as well as ramping
which too was a blast.

Anyhow, now that the ice has FINALLY melted away (16 inches of snow in weekend April storm!) and warmer weather has returned to stay I am looking to see if anyone here has suggestions on places to get recurrent in the Twin Cities here in Minnesota. I know I could go back to who I originally did my training with, but also know there are a few out there. Does anyone here have a preference or know of someone I may have looked over? Looking to get recurrent and do some flying afterwords to build some seaplane time.

Lake-Fest is coming up soon in your neck of the woods. It's held at a beautiful resort.
It's worth checking out I bet.

Surfside at Lino Lakes had instruction, small family owned place. I stopped in there for fuel a couple of times ferrying float planes to AK. Super nice folks.

Also if you haven't read "notes of a seaplane instructor" I highly recommend it. I fly floats for a living and still pick it up every year just to peruse it.

Got an email out to Adventure Seaplanes with a few questions and have heard nothing but great things about. We'll see what they say.

I haven't read that book. But, will certainly add it to my list to read. Thank you for the suggestion!
