good judgement is from experience,
experience is from bad judgement......

Reminds me of a story  ,,,

Martin Mars would depart Honolulu (for San Fran) with the benefit of JATO. When over the bay they would jettison the bottles and a detail would go out and pick 'em up for later use.

Flight engineer I know personally, tells of a particular 1st officer that was known for not listening. Captain gave the order to "stand by to jettison JATO" at which point the inattentive 1st officer let's 'em go. Well they weren't quite clear the island and for the rest of the war they could no longer depart over the island, due to the rather large hole blown through the deck of one of Honolulu's residents.

When the Blue Angels were here a few years ago, and did a JATO with the herc, they set some grass on fire at the edge of the runway... got to be pretty funny before it got put out!

God put me here to accomplish a certain amount of things...right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!!

tall tales of vert T/O

Locals at Saline Valley Hot Springs told of the time that a military jet buzzed over, just off the deck, and then kicked in the afterburners, and went vertical right over the springs, blowing over the out house, which is now cabled down fast. True? I dunno...you decide!
