Talked with a guy last Monday that had just been over to Shafer to fish in his RV-4 and said it was in good shape. I'm sure Moose Creek is as good as ever. Try the shortfield.com and see if anyone has put up any recent reports. Enjoy!

Ideally, Pilot Reports should be routinely updated in the Airstrip Database or at http://www.shortfield.com.

It would be great if people would get in the habit of updating the PiReps for these strips. It's a great resource for other pilots.

It's easy:

1) Visit http://www.shortfield.com
2) Login/Register
3) Search for an airstrip
4) Add to the PiRep section with your report.

Please add to the general description section too if nothing exists.

Moose Creek should be great. According to the weather station located on the field they've had over 2 inches of rain since midnight and 2.5 inches in the last 24 hours. Must of been a hell of a storm. Benchmark and Spotted Bear are also reporting rain in the last 24 hours.

Moose Creek has undergone some changes. The forest service has dynamited some of the trees in the campground area. They will be taking down more. It is supposedly for the protection of the pilots.

They may be getting rid of the tables this fall. This may also be for our protection. Tables are dangerous.

They are however putting on a new wood shake roof on the ranger station. Forest service personnel need more comfort than pilots.

They are also considering making the private house that they somehow acquired on the other side of Moose Creek a Forest Service Retreat.

It all makes sense if you realize that the Wilderness is mainly for the use of forest service personnel not for the general public.

These changes at Moose Creek will make our experience less than what it has been for many years. I think we can thank the forest service District Manager for these changes. She is looking out for us.

This is all just rumor of course.

by the way in case you didn't recognize it my avatar Pix is at Moose creek. It was pretty smooth and uneventful landing on the long runway and taking off on the shorter down hill one...
