"Honey, I only drink this beer so you can use the phone." It's a selfless act.

This will be something for all survival kits that have electronics associated with them.
I SO much like this idea for use of urine over the idea of drinking it..... =D>

Re: recharge cell phone with pee.......

Kinda slick, but the overall 'size' is about the same as the six AA batteries they claim it replaces ;)

I guess the multiplier factor of the little 'pucks' and the weight might 'weigh out' in the end. Or should I say 'wash out" ? hmmmmm.

Re: recharge cell phone with pee.......

Simple math here folks. It costs $200.00 to buy this thing, "power pucks" cost $4.00 each and provide the same amount of power as 6 AA batteries. This is equal to buying batteries at 33 cents each. Durracels cost about 50 cents each, so the break even point is after over 1000 batteries. #-o Add that to the fact that you can buy AA batteries anywhere, and this is just another cute, expensive, toy that looks neat. I'll stick to carryng a box of Durracels. =D>

How long does one wait in the desert before you start drinking your pee.
1. Should you begin as soon as you get there as a precautionary thing, or should you wait until you are actually out of water?
2. Should you pee on your phone first and call for help risking your last drop of pee, leaving you nothing to drink.

3. Should you test this charging technique on an electric fence.

Surviving in the desert just got a lot more complicated.

Re: recharge cell phone with pee.......

'The experts' used to concur that "Never drink urine, Never drink sea/ocean (salt) water".
Now some experts(?) disagree and claim 'first pass' is beneficial on the urine, and to some people, some times 'a little' sea/ocean water can be beneficial.
To explore further you would need to search the survival web sites and their 'experts' (and their credentials) and form your own opinion.
As for me, I think by the time I puked a few times trying to choke down urine, it would undoubtedly be a 'net loss' in hydration.

Re: recharge cell phone with pee.......

My point wasn't to gross anybody out. It was more 'Know yourself' and have some idea whether to consider it as an option or not.
Just like I know I couldn't hike 10 miles up hill at 5000 feet elevation at a fast pace, in the kind of shape I currently am in, to save my ass. (Not that you couldn't tell that, too, at a glance...:) ....)
Wasn't it Socrates who said "Know Thyself"?

Some wise guy, anyway....
