Started to recommission the Scout today for it's trip to Ketchikan. No more fun in the Sun, working late in the dark cold hangar tonight.



Found a small hydraulic fluid leak on the forward left actuator. Will cycle the gear a few times with the panel open to find out what's wrong before taking the aircraft off the blocks. I always cycle the gear a bunch after it's been sitting so no big deal.



There was a small puddle of MIL-PRF-5606H here;


I love my new Verizon cellular data here in Oregon!! Man its fast in contrast to being in Roadhouses, Kona, and Honolulu!

Wrapped a small piece of paper towel around the #4 NPT fitting to see if it leaks on the gear actuator (see post #1). So far it's holding about 700PSI with no sign of a leak (about 15 minutes);


(8) spark plugs to clean, gap, test and replace the copper gasket;


Drained preservative oil MIL-C-6529-C ;

Lycoming started first 180 degrees! Running well. Next: cowl, logs, flight...

So where was the hid leak? Did you ever find it?

Hi Kurt,

The leak stopped! I put a half turn on the NPT. Hopefully it will stay dry.

Will watch the actuator and the hydraulic reservoir closely. Going on test flight tomorrow....

After a (1) hour test flight I am totally stoked.

Very happy to report the hydraulic fluid leak in the left #2 float chamber is looking very dry!! Topped off the reservoir and good to go.

Washed the Scout this morning 07:00 PDT. It's VFR, unreal. Decided to blow dry the airframe...

Life is great in a Scout... I departed in about 700 feet, @gross, 100' DA, 11KT x-wind (@ 45 degrees). She climbed @ 90 IAS / 700 FPM
