Red Lake MN Fly-In - Feb 24

There will be a fly-in event on Upper Red Lake MN on Saturday Feb 24 @ 10:00. JR's Red Lake Access hosts the annual event. They maintain a plowed runway on the ice, so skis aren't required. There is a bar & restaurant on site, plus they rent ice fishing houses as well to those who want to stay for a while. Lots of airplanes showed up last year.

Lots of great prizes to be won for anyone who flys in, including a fly in fishing trip for 4 with Showalter's, Tanis heaters, etc.

All they ask is to let them know you are coming. More info on his Facebook page "JR's Red Lake Access" or website at www.redlakeaccess.com

Is this on Reservation land? I thought I read a few years back someone had an issue with tribal authorities after they landed on Red lake. Does any one remember or am I just imagining things.

Re: Red Lake MN Fly-In - Feb 24

Not sure about those details G44, but I do know that JR owns some of the only land surrounding Red Lake that is not part of the reserve. He runs a thriving business, catering to ice fisherman with the bar/restaurant, ice house rentals, etc. He also owns the nicest late model 180 I've ever seen, and a Super Cub that is just as good. This is the 4th annual fly in, so any issues that anyone may have had before, if any, must be resolved.

You should make an appearance if your nearby. There are 3 of us coming together from NW Ontario, 2 180's and a Beaver.

Re: Red Lake MN Fly-In - Feb 24

There was a case several years ago where a pilot landed on a portion of Upper Red Lake that is in the reservation. I don’t recall all the details, but it cost the pilot some money and time to get his airplane back. I have no idea if the tribe is still taking that approach.

But this event is not on that part of the lake.

A little late, but here's a few pics from the fly-in on Upper Red Lake MN on Feb 24. Unfortunately, the snow storm near the Twin Cities kept most at home. 22 out of the expected 75 were able to get in from nearby. Great hosts at JR's Red Lake Access with great prizes awarded. Definitely be back next year.

Looks like a fun time, I can only imagine how much fun it would have been if the wx had been better.

That looks like a blast. I'm normally not a huge fan of this paint scheme, but the burgundy/silver makes it look amazing. Or maybe it's the bushwheels.
