"Red Platoon A True Story of American Valor"

While about a ground cavalry platoon defense of COP Keating in Afghanistan, Platoon Sergeant Romesha also well explains the close air support of both Army and Air Force aircraft.
The words printed over the door leaving the ready room of the F-15 Squadron made me cry like a baby: "The mission is a Private with a gun. Everything else is support."
I'm a slow reader but I read this very well written book in three days. Those who have been placed on Sun's "dangerous ground" will understand this sergeant's orientation.
I highly recommend this book.

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.
If you want to read a very good description of life in a ranger company on the Afghan/Pakistan border, get a copy of "War" by Sebastian Junger, the guy who wrote "A Perfect Storm".
Hunger was embedded with a Ranger team for many months. One of my former students was a Ranger in a detachment just down the ridge. He told me that Junger was very highly regarded by the team he was embedded with, and the book was reported to be an accurate accounting of that part of the war.
It's a pretty incredible story.

A couple Guys in my platoon were in the Korengal documentary, one of them is on the cover. and those are the guys who I was open ears to during training. They passed on lots of good info for us. My squad leader was in the shitshow in that outpost too but not in any of the documentarys. I'm a year out now and miss my unit.
