Requesting Pictures of KUDD AND KTRM

I was wondering if anyone has pictures of these two airports out in the low desert of socal. They could either be approaching or general aerial. Its for a project I'm working on and I've yet to get out there and take them myself. I've also searched online but haven't been able to really find anything.

Thanks

Go to Google Maps, find your airport, zoom in or out, then click on the little button that says "Satellite", and voila!

Bermuda Dunes (UDD) is mostly surrounded by city now, due to the expansion of the greater Palm Springs area. Thermal (TRM) is now called Jacqueline Cochran International and is getting used more and more for "wealth bomber" corporate aircraft.

Once upon a time in a previous century, Thermal had a strange dwelling called a "Flight Service Station", which was kind of like today's iPhone but a little more friendly and you didn't have to scroll through as many screens.

Even better than google maps would be google earth. You can change your view angle and get an idea of what the terrain is like surrounding the strip.

Try www.Fltplan.com Go to airport info and it usually has a aerial view. I was at UDD a while back and it took forever to get a IFR clearance out of there. Used PSP since.

The project is compilning photos of airports that I have landed at. A awhile ago I land at these two airports but my camera was on the wrong settings so the pictures didn't come out.

I would like pictures from the approach.... Final, base, downwind, things like that. If all else fail I'll just fly back out there :)

Thanks

Go easy on us "Wealth Bomber" guys...
After landing in Thermal (J-Cock), your first question is WHY. The folks at Tradition are great though.
Got a hug from most of the "Girls" yesterday.

Landed my G3 at Bermuda Dunes back in '04. Ruffled a few feathers. Pretty tight taxiing.
They're probably still replacing glass in those homes on the runway. Pure music :)
They enjoyed selling me fuel though!

I'll try and snap a few pics for you Sunday on the way out of Thermal.

Re: Requesting Pictures of KUDD AND KTRM

Anybody know of any hangar space or secure tie downs in the area for a few months this winter? My wife and I have been spending a little time out in the Coachella Valley over the last few years and this year we are driving out in January, (normally take a smoker) for a few weeks, leaving the car and flying back to KC, then returning by smoker in March for another 2 - 3 weeks, then driving home. Would like to maybe fly out my airplane earlier and leave it there so that I could explore the area strips while I'm there this winter. Have stopped by Bermuda Dunes and Thermal in the past an nosed around a little but haven't really found a place that I feel comfortable leaving and airplane for 3 weeks at a time with no one to keep tabs on it for me. Any suggestions? Also, if I do this any locals out there want to get together and fly around a bit this winter?

What type plane do you have?
Tradition at Thermal has a few huge (secure) hangars.
I'll ask them for a monthly estimate when I'm down there Sunday.
Don't recall seeing any tie-down rings at there facility.

Skytruck,

I have a few different ones, but I think that I would take out the C180 or the C-175. Most likely the C-175, it has the Lycoming 0-360 in it with a Horton STOL, big tires and interior gutted for camping/sleeping. It makes for a pretty good backcountry aircraft. Appreciate the response.

Re: Requesting Pictures of KUDD AND KTRM

Titus577,
Sorry, no pics.
The winds were blowing and we took off to the north.
Normally we depart South which would allow us to take pics while flying downwind leg to the North.
Plus it was bumpy. Not the best for taking pics.

Cublite,
You sitting down?
Tradition wants, or their starting price is $499 a month to hangar a 172 sized plane.
I'm sure you could work them down a bit but...
They have no tie-down setups. They just chalk all the wheels. Not good in my book. I'm sure you know the winds blow pretty good there.
I guess they have to make all their money during the season. The place is a ghost town during Summer.

KUDD has lots of outside tie downs. $10.00 a night. Don't know the monthly rate. Don't buy gas there $$$ Big Bear usually has fair prices and a nice on field restaurant.

Cheers

If you plan to get fuel and grub at Big Bear and you land, and a big long line at the pump (because of cheap fuel), go ahead and wait in line to get fuel first!! Trust me, I know

I flew into Big Bear last year over the Christmas holidays and a big long line for the fuel pump. I figured I'd park, eat and wait for the line to die down. Well, the line didn't die down tell they ran out of fuel  . I barely had enough to get to Rialto for a few gallons and topped off at Corona.

UDD, brings back memories. I flew a Westwind 2 in and out about 4 or 5 times a week way back in my youth. The company also had a G2 that came in once in a while. The residents didn't like us very much.

Re: Requesting Pictures of KUDD AND KTRM

never been to Big Bear without having to wait in line and yes I always get fuel first. never know when the well will go dry... the airport restaurant is good but there's a small restaurant a couple blocks from the airport better... go to the main road and turn left for a block. It's there on the left... can't remember the name of it. Think it's some womans name...about a 10 minute walk...
