Re: Rexburg Airshow June 16th

Happened last night during practice. Lost power and couldn't fully exit the maneuver. Video in the news link.

That was weird. It sounded like his power was creeping back but he kept rolling anyway?????

Re: Rexburg Airshow June 16th

Don't know where the whole "loss of power" thing comes from, plane sounded like it had good power to point of impact. Pilot drove the aircraft like it had good power to point of impact. Looked like a typical sloppy multiple "ballistic" roll commonly flown in airshow routines by pilots with a new low altitude waiver. Weird is that he was rolling to the right where Lycoming engine planes prefer going left. Pilots also find it easier to push left stick than pull right stick. Not well coordinated, especially after the peak of the parabolic where the rudder and elevator inputs are not keeping time to the roll causing the nose to drop unnecessarily and causing more loss of altitude. He tries to squeeze one last roll in, off show line axis and now over trees instead of the runway so looses another 100' of safety altitude.

Sure glad he is ok.

I agree.............. I was gonna fly over this morning till I saw that video.... My gut feeling is the organizers assembled a bunch of "less then qualified" performers to fill the bill and I didn't want to be colleral damage from an act gone wrong...

Hope all went well today and everyone made it through safe. [-o< [-o<

I spent an hour there This morning smoozing and then got out right before they closed the airspace down, then it was back to the gravel bars. Way more fun than watching other people fly!

Re: Rexburg Airshow June 16th

I went to the airshow today, don't think I will go back there anytime soon. The flying part of the show was actually pretty good, but in between planes they had a "motorcyle stunt team" performing on the ramp. I really don't like the idea of someone doing wheelies, burnouts, front wheel stands, etc. sometimes as close as 10 feet to parked airplanes, especially when one of the planes is mine. They were also doing burnouts in the crowd at one point. There was no mention of last night's crash at the show, but there is some yellow caution tape around a few trees on the golf course where he hit.
