Richmond, VA to North Dakota--any tips!!!
Not necessarily information about airstrips or airports, but more general info about a greater area or a route of flight.

Going out next week to pick up our new to us 54-C180. Anybody have any tips on out east, besides to leave as soon as possible? We are looking at heading towards Chicago, and heading northwest after Chicago to GFK. Can't wait to get the new toy home!!!
The Plane is at LKU Louisa County, VA and I am based by D56, Mayville, ND.
Thanks, Lance

Yeah, the best way to get from point A to point B is definitely in a newly-acquired C-180!

Yup...
Take off, put the compass on the Big W, and about 1,000 miles later see if anything looks like Mayville, and if it does, land there.

Lance,
Be sure you pay close attention to notams and TFR's the president and his cronies cause them to pop up around this area fairly often. Don't wanna go upsetn' the feds you know.

Let's see if I remember how to land this thing.
Thanks for the tips, I can about imagine the TFR's that occur in that part of the country.
I will post some pics on my new baby when I get home--I guess I will have to figure that out next.
Thanks, Lance

If'n it was me, I think the $$$ for a Garmin 396/496 and XM weather would be worth it just for the moving map and airspace/TFR display to get the heck out of that part of the world without getting killed or caught.

Yes, I agree--my Dad just bought a 496 in December, I think now will be the time to check out the XM weather.
I would imagine seeing a F-16 flying alongside you would not be such a great feeling.

I subscribe to the Aviator Lite package at 29.95 a month. It is worth it's weight in gold. Current weather, Nexrad radar overlayed on the screen, all the TFR's showing real time on the map... The XM Radio is darn nice too on a long trip.

Yes, that is what I was going to try also. I can't get the subscription link on the XM site to work, however. Hopefully it will be up in the next day or so.
