Robertson 185s and the MOSAIC rule

Wondering if Robertson 185s would qualify under the new LSA MOSAIC?

I don’t need it personally, but would increase the value I’d wager

My understanding is the main cutoff is VS of 54kts or less

In the manual I have shows this

But also shows this

Re: Robertson 185s and the MOSAIC rule

When I read the NPRM, I understood it to say that only and aircraft originally certified to have a clean stall speed of less than 54 knots calibrated airspeed could be flown under LSA rules. Aircraft that used post certification mods to achieve this would not qualify.

Don't quote me on this, but I thought the max gross on the Mosaic was 3000 lbs., which would not allow the 185 anyway. Guess a search of the proposed rules is needed.

Re: Robertson 185s and the MOSAIC rule

"about 3,000 pounds"......

"MOSAIC ditches the current LSA weight limit of 600 kilograms (1,320 pounds) and replaces it with “performance-based” measures such as a 54-knot maximum clean stall speed (Vs1) that will allow airplanes with gross weights up to about 3,000 pounds to be operated by sport pilots."

Re: Robertson 185s and the MOSAIC rule

On the max stall speed, keep in mind the difference between calibrated (NPRM says 54 kts calibrated) and indicated (your chart says 53 kts indicated).
Another potential limiting factor for a 185 is the seating capacity. NPRM says an aircraft cannot be considered light sport unless it has 4 seats or fewer. An aircraft with original seating capacity greater than 4 seats does not qualify and can't be made to qualify by simply removing the extra seats. It must have been certified / manufactured as having 4 seats or less. I think that rules out most 185's except for some of the early models.
