Runner-up in Avweb.com POTW...uhh hemm, yours truly!

Guess who made the avweb.com Picture of the Week contest runner up?? That's right, ME!! Though I'm probably gonna get a lot of shit from you guys for posting a photo of a hot air balloon instead of an airplane.

Zane,

Yeah, I can see your head swelling up like a,ah,, err,,, balloon???

Nice shot.

BTW, the STOL capabilities of those aircraft are pretty amazing, the only thing that sucks is going so high to try to get any decent groundspeed... ;-)

Balloons are so...medieval. Was fun to be there and see them all take off, and it makes for great photo subject with all the colors, but frankly, hot air balloons leave me limp. Hope I don't offend any backcountry balloon pilots here. I thought it interesting while I was there, that all of these babies have N numbers and are flown by pilots with at least a Private cert in Lighter-Than-Air category. Many had EXPERIMENTAL on the side. I guess it's hard to get an STC for the African small gauge wicker that is so preferable to our Oxford stubby wicker that is approved for use in baskets.

Ok, I will admit that it's probably pretty cool to silently rise straight up and hover, and I support anything aviation related that gets a lot of enthusiastic people together. Yay balloons!

'Experimental' means you're very good with a sewing machine in the ballooning community.

We have a lot of ballooning going on around our airport and have our share of fun flying among them.
