Sad news

Q: Speaking of risk, you nearly killed yourself flying aerobatics in a plane. Why should we take your advice about being bold?

A: The older you get, the more risk you should take. When George Bush Sr. went skydiving at 80, they made a big deal. What if his parachute didn't open? So what? It's not like the guy hasn't done anything with his life. Kids who are 18 think they will live forever and take huge risk. They have their entire lives ahead of them. If I were to die tomorrow, I have no complaints. I've experienced more than anybody should expect in a lifetime.

Re: Sad news

That is sad for sure........

He came through Jackson Hole last fall flying in his homebuilt miniture fighter jet... http://www.pilotfriend.com/experimental/acft7/42.htm

I don't recall the name of the jet but I believe the kit is /was made down in Colorado... I chatted with him while they stuffed as much Jet A into it as it could hold.. He said with the fuel burn the motor in it had he had just enought to make it back to Boise... It is one KOOL experimental jet......

Tailwinds fellow pilot......

Ben.

Re: Sad news

I hate it when experimentals go down. I'm not sure why it disturbs me more than when a certified breaks up in IMC. It will be interesting to find out what he adjusted back at the hangar, why he adjusted it, and how the airplane "stopped" on climb out.

There's two thread's going about this unfortunate accident. http://www.backcountrypilot.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9406

Very sad deal! There is a couple of video's they are in the middle of investigating. Hopefully they will be able to find something interesting enough to see what the probable cause is. :(

...The one that is accurately and descriptively titled, in Accident Analysis. As threads drop off the front page, and time rolls on into the future, threads with more accurate titles are more easily found in search. No offense, Don. :)
