Be there or be square!

I'll make that one. Been planning some steelie fishing there around then. Had a little look-see at it yesterday on the way to Lewiston in the Thrush, not enough balls to risk the work plane unnecessarily though. It was really smoky from Garden Valley north with 0-0 right around Riggins. It'll be nice to have something clear that out.
Lemme know when you get more exact on the date. Gonna have some seeding to do at some point and I'll be finishing the helo rating around then but I could make it work if you have a window of days to pick from.

I should be able to make it also. Might even be able to make it a flight of 2.

I'll see if I can get Tucker to go as well. His Maule is in my hangar with the prop off while mine is gone in Lewiston.

Forgot to mention if anyone hasn't been in there and is interested there is a video of a kid landing his 170 there last spring on You Tube. Just type "salmon bar landing" into a search engine.

I'm sure he was fine. If you think about it how often when light do you NEED to use more than 650 feet (Idaho Cub was fibbin' a bit, it's really like 650-700 feet long!). It's like a little aircraft carrier in that it's about twenty or thirty feet DOWN to the water on each end so all you have to do is be able to roll off the end in 700 feet or so. It's only at about 900 feet msl and if you leave in the morning when it's a slight, calm breeze either way (that's a plus to this place, you can depart either way depending on wind with NO problem!) and 50 degrees or so there isn't much to it. Also lewiston is about 35 miles north, Grangeville 40 N.E., McCall about 70 S.E., and Joseph about 45 S.W. so no matter which way you are going upon departure you only need to bring in about ten - fifteen gallons of fuel upon arrival. 90 pounds of fuel, 400 pounds of people, and 200 pounds of gear with no back seats, I'd think it wouldn't be a problem as long as you had practiced and gotten current in the week or so up to the trip out. A couple passes followed by a roll-on go-around or two then just line her up, eaaaassse her on back, and bring her on in!
You could come in with three hundred pounds of gear though, we'll drink the beer!

Hells canyon is near sea level horse power. I would think that would be no problem for a 170.

So, is this like the first through the tenth of October? Or are we lookin for some weather for a weekend? I'm just trying to get my schedule cleared. I was working this summer and missed out on the fly-ins, so I'm overdue for some fun.

Last time I was in to Salmon Bar there was a 2 foot sink hole / washout on the north side of the strip just to the east of the threshold. You would want to ease yourself slightly to the left / east of center when landing to the south (upstream) because of that big snarly tree on your right (you can see it to the right of threshold in the video) and if you didn't know the hole was there, could certainly cause some damage. Wondering if anybody had filled this in? - or trimmed back the dang tree?
By the way, G3 has it right, there is no way there is 800 feet there. Maybe way back when, but there's evidence of plenty of erosion at both ends of this sandy strip which has trimmed the length. Hope the date works out so I can join y'all

How many planes do you think could be parked safely at Salmon Bar?

Next time someone goes by there, time it on na fly-by & let us know the length. 70mph groundspeed = 100 feet per second. Easy.

Or, 100 mph = 146 ft/sec

Judging from that video, I'd say theres a couple bumps or holes in it. :) Think I'll pass with the 150, I'm sure I could get in OK, but would need a heck of a headwind to get out again.

Those weren't bumps, those were touch and goes and by my count the kid did 8 of them on a single pass so I'd say there's plenty of room to get in and out.
