Schafer Meadows Closure

A heads up that Schafer Meadows(8U2) will be closed from Aug 23-31. The closure is to allow the USFS to accomplish the long planned runway project. Immediately adjacent to the runway, along the north side of it, the USFS will be plowing up the ground, then grading, rolling and seeding nearly the full length. There will be people, stock and equipment on the runway. The plan then is to let that grow for 1-2 years and then move the runway cones to the new grass and do the same job to the current runway.

Re: Schafer Meadows Closure

The work is completed for this year. Now that the local USFS folks have some experience with this project the plan is to do the same work for the next 3-5 years each spring. This will probably not require a closure and they think a couple days each spring will be sufficient.

Thanks for keeping us informed on this project, Scott, and thanks for keeping communication lines open with the Forest Service folks as well.

Only 8 days? Wow!
If the FAA was doing that project, it'd be a month long closure (at least!).
And probably a bunch of other unwanted & un-needed "improvements" to go along with it.
